Hate Crime: Gay Man Shot Dead in Greenwich Village after Hispanic Gunman Shouted Homophobic Slurs

Hate crime committed in Greenwich Village …

The NY Post is reporting that a suspected hate crime was committed in NYC, as a gay man was shot dead after the gun man shouted a homophobic slur. The actual headline was, ‘Gay man shot dead in Village after gunman shouted homophobic slurs: authorities’. The New York Times reported, ‘In Shadow of the Stonewall Inn, a Gay Man Is Killed’. CBS News, ‘Police: Gunman Used Anti-Gay Slurs Before Killing Man In Greenwich Village’. Hmm, there seems to be something missing from the descriptive nature of the headlines. The gunman was Hispanic, not white. Personally, I believe murder is murder and I do not believe one is worse than the other (unless it is the murder of a child), but if you are going to charge it as a “hate crime,” than it should be paramount to get the description of the suspect correct. 32 year old Marc Carson was walking with a friend in the Village when after having a gay slur shouted at them around midnight, they were approached by 33 year old Elliot Morales pulled out a 38-caliber revolver and shot Carson dead. Yet another senseless killing. Now unless the media want to report Morales as being a “white” Hispanic like they did when George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin, then lets call the suspect for what he was.

A gay man was gunned down in Greenwich Village early yesterday morning by an armed bigot who hurled homophobic slurs at him — and claimed to be the Newtown, Conn. killer before the murder, police said today.

Marc Carson, 32, was walking with a pal on Sixth Avenue near West Eighth Street about midnight when they were approached by Elliot Morales, 33 and two other Hispanic males, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

One man snarled homophobic slurs at the men and asked them if they were “gay wrestlers,” Kelly said.

Another thing that needs to be asked in this senseless shooting and murder of an innocent individual. How are those gun laws working in NYC Mayor Bloomberg? Like all laws, especially gun laws, they only affect law-abiding citizens.
