A one year old Leaona Wright has been missing since Saturday morning, June 6, 2015 in Pendleton, South Carolina. The one year old little girl is about 29 pounds and was last seen wearing a long white T-shirt. Anderson County deputies told media outlets that the toddler’s mother, Kiara Sullivan, discovered her daughter gone Saturday morning. Investigators say the girl’s older sister may have opened a door and the toddler walked out and away from the Apartment building A of Edgewood Square Apartments. The boyfriend of Leona’s mother, Travis Jones (pic), was taken into custody on Saturday morning for an outstanding bench warrant unrelated to the case. The mother was not home at the time the one year old went missing. The boyfriend was watching the child at the time of the disappearance. The police searched 2 miles in every direction of the Edgewood Square Apartments with deputies, dogs and search crews from multiple jurisdictions to no avail.
It has not been determined yet whether foul play has been involved.
Leona was reported missing from the apartment complex on Saturday morning. More than 200 deputies, firefighters and other emergency personnel from Anderson and Oconee counties spent more than five hours searching a 2-mile radius around the complex without finding the child. Reverse 911 calls also were made to residents living within 2 miles of the apartments.
The child’s mother, Kiara Sullivan, told the Independent Mail that Leona was missing when she and her boyfriend woke up at 9:25 a.m. Saturday — three hours after she had last checked on the toddler. Sullivan said her boyfriend, Travis Jones, told her he saw Leona’s 3-year-old sister, A’riel, standing in an open door at the apartment. Authorities said Leona may have walked or crawled through the door that her sister opened.
Deputies arrested Jones on Saturday on a 2013 warrant for failing to appear after release on a misdemeanor charge. Skipper said the warrant stemmed from a family court case that may have involved unpaid child support. Jones is being held without bail at the Anderson County Detention Center, jail records show.
No charges have been filed in connection with Leona’s disappearance.
