14 year old Adonis Mera was shot while ice skating at New York City’s Bryant Park rink Saturday night around 11 pm. The rink was reportedly packed with up to 150 individuals as 4 or 5 shots rang out causing panic and chaos as people started jumping over the side of the rink for cover.  An unidentified black male with dreadlocks in a red hooded shirt is reported to have been the gunman according to witnesses. Another 20 year old Hispanic male was shot and wounded in the incident and is expected to recover. However, according to the 14 year old’s family it is possible that Adonis Mera may never walk again. According to his brother, Jorge Arias, 29,“He can’t move anything from the waist down.” The senselessness of the shooting is that it is being reported that the shooting may have been over a coat. Adonis Mera appears to have just been an innocent bystander.

A gunman shot a 20-year-old man in the arm and 14-year-old Adonis Mera in the back — and the teen’s family fears he may never walk again. Police are searching for the suspected shooter — described as a black male with dreadlocks in a red hooded shirt — and investigating the possibility that the shooting may have been over a coat.

A 14-year-old boy who lived to skate was shot at the Bryant Park rink Saturday night— and may have been left paralyzed as a result, relatives said.

A gunman standing outside the packed rink on W. 40th St. and Fifth Ave. opened fire at about 11 p.m., hitting Adonis Mera in the back as he looped around the rink.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a shooting at Bryant Park just after 11 p.m., officials said. One man was shot in the torso; the other in one of his legs and they were taken to Bellevue Hospital Center.

“People just fell on the floor because they heard a gunshot and they had ice skating skates on so they couldn’t run,” said Raghuram Krishnamachari, 29, of Brooklyn, who was eating dinner with his girlfriend and her family at the park’s second-floor restaurant Celsius. Their table was next to a window overlooking the rink.

UPDATE I: From CBS News – New York – Cops Hunt For Bryant Park Gunman.

Police told WCBS 880 shortly before noon that they are interviewing a person of interest, but no arrest has been made. They had been looking for a black male in his 20s with dreadlocks who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
