Mitt Romney Wins Michigan Primary for Republicans … Hillary Wins Unopposed for Democrats

Another primary and another winner for the Republicans. This time it was Mitt Romney who won the Michigan primary over John McCain. Mitt Romney picks up an impressive and necessary win in Michigan.

Romney’s Michigan win shakes up GOP race

With 95 percent of precincts counted, Romney — the Oakland County-reared son of a popular Michigan governor — lead McCain by a margin of 39 percent to 30. Mike Huckabee had 16 percent.

“Tonight is a win for optimist over Washington-style pessimism,” Romney told a cheering crowd at a Southfield hotel where he had awaited the results. (Detroit News)

Hillary Clinton won for the Democrats in what turned out to be a one horse race, literally. Younger voters choose ‘uncommitted’ over Clinton. This is not a good sign for Hillary. Nor is the divisive black/white polarization going on in the Democratic party. To all those people that do not think Hillary Clinton is not a lightening rod. The heck with the general election, Hillary has managed to cause friction and polarization within her own party.

Meanwhile, Michigan’s Democratic primary was barely contested, as Barack Obama and John Edwards withdrew from the ballot because of questions about whether the state’s delegates would be seated at the Democratic convention. Only a campaign to vote “uncommitted” stood in Hillary Rodham Clinton’s way. Clinton, who would become the nation’s first female president, won particularly strong support among women and older voters.

Next stop … South Carolina and Nevada.
