Aruban Justice … 6 Years Is the Punishment in Aruba for the Mutilation and Burning of Pit Bulls Body

Justice is supposed to be blind, not foolish.
One really begins to wonder when they see such justice handed out for such heinous crimes whether it makes any difference whether Aruban officials ever bother to prosecute or find anyone guilty of a crime. However, the mind set of the OM in prosecuting this case speaks volumes of a more media covered case in Aruba, Natalee Holloway.
SIX YEARS FOR MUTILATING AND BURNING A BODY!!!
In the court of appeals, the joint Court of Justice convicted Sijgmund Heyliger (37) to six years imprisonment. Heyliger appealed his five-year imprisonment verdict for his involvement in the mutilation and burning of Dinesh Djoegan’s body, too high. The attorney general has demanded 7 years. (Amigoe)
This is what is considered justice on One Happy Island. Does the word “justice” even appear in the Aruban dictionary? Let alone the fact that the OM asked for too short a period of time, how is it that the judge consistently gave lesser sentences? What also happened to the possibility that Pit Bull was forced to take the drugs?
The family was informed that Pitbull was not murdered, but had an amount of cocaine in his body. There is a possibility that he was forced to take the drug. The OM is also investigating the relation between the cause of death and the fact that Djoegan was found burned and crucified. (SM via Amigoe)
During the investigation the family of Dinesh Djoegan (Pit Bull) demanded why it was taking so long and that they “just needed to wait”. I guess they will now be asking why people who did such a heinous crime only got six years.
How does anyone have any confidence in the Aruban investigative or justice system when things like this occur? We are supposed to believe that Pit Bull died of an accidental overdose and the natural reaction of those around him was to burn and mutilate his body? Is anyone buying this as a plausible set of events that happened? Wouldn’t those arrested just have left his body there so that the ALE would discover that he died of an overdose?
Could this actually be the MO on Aruba? If it is believed that the natural reaction of Arubans if presented with a death, whether it be accidental, intentional or an overdose, is to get rid of the body though mutilation or burning … is that what the three suspects did in the case of Natalee Holloway? Many have speculated that Natalee may have died accidentally due to alcohol, drugs (taken or slipped) or both during an assault by the three suspects. If that was the case the normal thing would have been to have just left her there. An autopsy would have showed what she allegedly died from. Of course it also would have showed signs of assault and potential drugs in her system that are only slipped to an individual, never taken intentionally.
So the question remains in both cases of Pit Bull and Natalee Holloway, why did those responsible feel the need to get rid of their bodies?
Amigoe, May 6, 2007: Six years for mutilation of body
ORANJESTAD – In the court of appeals, the joint Court of Justice convicted Sijgmund Heyliger (37) to six years imprisonment. Heyliger appealed his five-year imprisonment verdict for his involvement in the mutilation and burning of Dinesh Djoegan’s body, too high. The attorney general has demanded 7 years.
The heavy mutilated body of Djoegan’s was found near the Guadirikiri cave in April of last year. At first, the police thought that he was murdered, but investigation revealed that the 25-year old Djoegan died from overdoses of drugs.
Michael Levenstone, Kim Prins and her husband Heyliger, all three also involved with drugs, decided to make the body disappear. In December of last year, the Court of First Instance imposed light punishments: 2.5 years imprisonment for Prins (the OM demanded 5) and 2.5 years for Levenstone (OM demanded 6). Both accepted their punishment. While the OM had demanded 8 years for Heyliger, he was sentenced to 5, and he appealed this.
