Sad news out of Hollywood, Director-Producer Tony Scott is dead. Tony Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, apparently jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, CA in an apparent suicide. The Top Gun director was 68 years old. As reported at the LA Times, several witnesses told police they saw Scott get out of his Toyota Prius, which was parked on the bridge, about 12:30 p.m. Then he scaled an 8- to 10-foot fence and jumped off without any hesitation. A suicide note was later found at Scott’s office. Sadly, He leaves a wife and two twins sons.
Rest in Peace
A source close to the Scott family just confirmed to Deadline that famed movie director and TV producer Tony Scott “has passed away. We ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this time.” Hollywood is shocked by this tragic news that he committed suicide because British-born Scott was well-liked personally and professionally and had a lauded and thriving career. “He was the loveliest guy. Genuinely,” a family friend tells Deadline. “He was one of the good ones.” Scott was best known for classic action films like Top Gun, Days Of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop II, True Romance, and Crimson Tide, and the most recent Unstoppable.
UPDATE I: After hearing the news of Tony Scott’s suicide, many were left to only ask why? It was first reported this morning by SBC and others that Scott had inoperable brain cancer. However, that appears now to not be the case.
UPDATE II: Why count on the MSM for news when you have TMZ and Deadline to get the facts in a case like this. Deadline is reporting that Tony Scott did not have brain cancer.
Tony Scott’s widow Donna has told police that the famed filmmaker/TV producer did not have brain cancer, informed insiders tell Deadline. That makes erroneous this morning’s Good Morning America report that he “had inoperable brain cancer” and quoted “a source close to him”.
