Steven Avery Murder Trial Begins in death of Teresa Halbach
The Steven Avery murder trial began today as jury selection is underway. The vicious murder of Teresa Halbach shocked the country in the heinous manner in how she was killed.
About 300 people were originally in the jury pool, but just over half were let go for hardship reasons.
The remaining 144 will be pared down to 30, and then to 16.
Four alternates will hear the testimony, in case any of the 12 jurors cannot be around for the entire duration of the trial.
That’s expected to be about six weeks.
Opening arguments are expected to begin around midweek. Steven Avery’s nephew, 17-year-old Brendan Dassey, is scheduled to be tried separately.
Steven Avery’s defense attorneys are claiming that Manitowoc County sheriff’s deputies planted evidence to set him up. Hard to imagine this much evidence was planted. For a refresher on the details of the Teresa Halbach murder go here.
