RUT-ROH … Imagine the embarrassment of Obama losing a primary to an unknown?
President Barack Obama might be having a Southwest commercial moment in the upcoming Arkansas primary and might just “Wanna Get Away”. According to a new poll of Arkansas Dems, Obama leads his unknown primary challenger, Tennessee lawyer John Wolfe, Jr., by a mere 7%. WOW. Just how embarrassing would it be for incumbent President Obama to lose to a complete unknown? The Weekly Standard interviewed Democrat primary challenger Wolfe who said, the poll results were “unbelievable” and said a defeat for Obama in the Arkansas primary would be “politically cataclysmic.” YA THINK!!! Heck, if an unknown actually finished within double digits of a sitting president in a primary is a big deal.
Obama is likely to experience a similar wave of discontent from Fourth District Democratic voters in Arkansas.
In our latest Talk Business-Hendrix College Poll, conducted last Thursday, May 10, 2012, 38% of Democratic primary voters in the Fourth say they’re casting ballots for John Wolfe, a Tennessee attorney who filed paperwork to qualify for the Arkansas Democratic primary.
Less than half — just 45% — say they presently support Obama.
45% – Barack Obama
38% – John Wolfe
17% – Undecided
As stated by Doug Ross, apparently Arkansas Democrats couldn’t find a convicted felon to run against Obama like they did in West Virginia. Classic! Recently, Obama struggled in the WV Democrat primary against Federal Inmate No. 11593-051 Keith Judd who garnered 41% of the vote.
More from the Weekly Standard’s interview with John Wolfe, Jr.
Wolfe predicted that the voters would move his way in the final days before the May 22 primary, despite his shoestring campaign budget. “There’s not been a single TV ad. There’s not been a single radio ad,” he said.
Wolfe is also competing against Obama in Texas’s May 29 primary.
Wolfe has criticized Obama for being too close to Wall Street and its interests (for example, Obama’s latest fundraiser with private equity lenders last night in New York City) and seeks to be a more principled Democrat than the 44th president.
Hillary Clinton was unavailable for comment as to why she never ran against Obama in the 2012 Democrat Primaries.
