Many of you have probably already seen these fictitious emails in you computer mail box. If not, then be warned … IRS Renews Email Alert Following New Scams.

The IRS saw an increase in complaints in recent weeks about these emails, which are designed to trick the recipients into disclosing personal and financial information that could be used to steal the recipients’ identity and financial assets.

The most recent scam claims to come directly from the IRS and states that recipients are promised a refund. If you believe that then we may have a bridge to sell you as well. What is rather interesting about the article is take a look at the countries that are listed as where these internet fraud schemes come from. One glaring name shows up out of all the ones listed. Out of all the countries in the world that could be listed, how does such a small island like Aruba show up on so many lists?

Many of these schemes originate outside the United States. To date, investigations by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration have identified sites hosting more than two dozen IRS-related phishing scams. These scam Web sites have been located in many different countries, including Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, China, England, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Singapore and Slovakia, as well as the United States.
