“Find Lauren Day” … Hundreds of Volunteers Turn Out to Search for Missing Indiana University Student Lauren Spierer

On Saturday, hundreds of volunteers turned out on “Find Lauren Day” to search for missing Lauren Spierer. However, despite the efforts of volunteer and professional searchers Lauren Spierer was not found, nor were any clues to her disappearance. 20 year old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer has been missing since June 3, 2011. Sadly, police stated just one day prior that they were no closer to finding Lauren than they were three weeks ago.

More than 500 people, creating more than 50 search parties, joined in the hunt for missing 20-year-old Indiana University student Lauren Spierer during Saturday’s “Find Lauren Day.” Spierer has been missing since June 3.

And despite the efforts of hundreds of volunteers and professional searchers on Saturday, she remained missing as the last of the day’s groups returned to search headquarters at McNutt residence hall early Saturday evening.

A visibly exhausted Robert Spierer, clad in camouflage-print pants and a navy blue Yankees T-shirt, said they still had not found his daughter by 4:30 p.m. They’ll try again Sunday, he said as he was leaving McNutt.

Despite the lack of results in finding their daughter, the parents of Lauren Spierer are determined to locate her.Her parents stated their is much more work to be done.

As a parent, you need to get up every day and look for your child,” said Robert Spierer, Lauren’s father.    There are still areas that have not been touched.  Today, teams are getting assignments to go out and search.  There are people on horses and ATVs searching.”

Sadly, law enforcement has few to no leads in this case and the ones they had, some have been recently thrown out as irrelevant to the case of missing Lauren Spierer. It is safe to say that some one knows what happened to Lauren and the fact that many friends have clammed up is telling. Investigators have floated a theory of a cocaine overdose, and panicked friends might have disposed of her body.

At today’s news conference, Capt. Joe Qualters said the words “perplexing,” “curious” and “disturbing” might be the adjectives chosen to describe Spierer’s friends’ behavior. “All in all, I think I’d probably characterize it as unfortunate,” Qualters said.

“I am extremely disappointed by the fact that only one of Lauren’s friends has called the Bloomington Police Department with any information,” Spierer’s mom Charlene Spierer at yesterday’s press conference.

There is something inherently troubling when the very people that claim to be friends and the closest to Lauren Spierer are the very ones who are not talking and worse yet, hire attorneys.Is that what today’s youth have come to? These are college educated kids who need to do the right thing.

Five of those who’ve been involved in the investigation — Jesse Wolff, Lauren’s boyfriend; and friends Corey Rossman, Mike Beth, Jay Rosenbaum and David Rohn, who all saw her during the last few hours before she disappeared — have retained lawyers.

But the closing of the ranks among these young men and women might be more than just simply following legal advice.

A note to any of Lauren’s friends who might know what happened that night or where she is … take a bit of advice from the Casey Anthony murder trial, it’s better to admit an accident in the beginning than being charged in a murder and face life in prison or worse. Just saying.
