Liberal Democrat HYPOCRISY …
ARE YOU SERIOUS? Former President Bill Clinton defends Robert Byrd’s KKK past by saying, “He Was Trying To Get Elected.”
“He once had a fleeting association with the Ku Klux Klan, what does that mean? I’ll tell you what it means. He was a country boy from the hills and hollows from West Virginia. He was trying to get elected,” former President Bill Clinton said of Sen. Robert Byrd.
Obama, Biden & Clinton at Byrd Memorial. Biden tells joke to Obama … hey Barack, a black, a Jew and a KKK member walk into a bar …
Because he was trying to get elected? Oh, ok … I guess that makes it perfectly fine William Jefferson Clinton. Nice, real nice.
If you want to praise the man for the good you have perceived Byrd had done, that is one thing. However, to praise and defend his involvement in the KKK … that is just disgusting. Imagine, just imagine if GWB had done something similar to this defending a Republican KKK Senator. Oh that’s right, there are none.
Who would ever have thought such words possible from the first black elected President? It would appear that Slick Willie got a bigger ovation than Barack “BP Oil spill leader” Obama at the Robert Byrd memorial. Pretty amazing stuff that the Democrat party would simply gloss over the fact that Robert Byrd’s ties to the KKK was simply a matter of convenience to be elected. Then say he spent the rest of his life making up for his Klan involvement. REALLY? Then maybe one might want to explain how Byrd from his 1940′s involvement with the KKK suddenly manifested itself with the filibuster of the 1965 Civil Rights Act?
In the early 1940s, Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to create a new chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.[10]
According to Byrd, a Klan official told him, “You have a talent for leadership, Bob … The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation.” Byrd later recalled, “suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did.”[10] Byrd held the titles Kleagle (recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops.[10] When it came time to elect the “Exalted Cyclops,” the top officer in the local Klan unit, Byrd won unanimously.[10]
In 1946 or 1947 Byrd wrote a letter to a Grand Wizard stating, “The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation.”.[19] However, when running for the United States House of Representatives in 1952, he announced “After about a year, I became disinterested, quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization.
As the Weekly Standard writes, Robert Byrd was not just a one time member of the Klan and the Exalted Cyclops of the KKK. He filibustered for 14 hours against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Hmm, I thought former President Bill Clinton said that Byrd spent the rest of his life righting his KKK wrong. I guess not.
