Bill O’Reilly has been fair? Talk about Cherry Picking a story

Posted in: Aruba,Media,Missing Persons,Natalee Holloway

Just when we thought we have heard it all with regards to ArubaTruth discussing “the boycott” that was referenced on the Dr. Phil Show, ArubaTruth gives us this gem:

Always the tough, hard hitting journalist, Bill O’Reilly has been fair in his reporting on Aruba. He has refused to speculate on the disappearance and asked tough questions of everyone, including Beth, Greta, and colleague Geraldo.

So when answering an email on the boycott, O’Reilly said to give Aruba some more time.

The analysis of Bill O’Reilly’s lack of calling for a boycott of Aruba by ‘ArubaTruth’ is as follows,

O’Reilly knows that economic sanctions will not advance the search for evidence or bring about justice in the case.

I hate to tell you but you couldn’t be more wrong. Listen to what O’Reilly has said all along. No one thinks that a boycott will advance the search. O’Reilly talks of a possible boycott to put pressure on the Aruban Government if the investigation is being swept under the carpet. As in the case with Dave Holloway, it is a grave mistake to confuse patience and allowing more time to get it right with the non-expectation of results. Time is being granted to actually allow to make a first impression a second time. Beware of those who offer extra time to get the job done correctly. They are usually the ones who are harder to deal with if no results have been gained. In O’Reilly’s case, ask France about his boycott.

I guess they really do not get Fox News in Aruba. Either that or they have decided to quote one Bill O’Reilly segment out of the many that have been more than tough on Aruba. ArubaTruth before you go giving kudos to Bill O’Reilly you may want to look back on the numerous shows that he had both Gerardo and Greta on “speculating” on the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. I can remember that Aruba was none too pleased when Bill O’Reilly made the comments that Aruba was a drug infested with cartels, money laundering Caribbean Island with sex trade.

Aruba itself is already paying a price. That island depends on American tourism, and a case like this can’t help the tourism industry there. Aruba is basically a benign island, very little violent crime. But according to the DEA, it is a drug transshipment center for the Colombian cartels.

It was also the O’Reilly Factor where Geraldo dropped the sex tape bombshell. As I plainly remember and as The Dark Side points out when this was referenced on the O’Reilly Factor,

“Bill O’Reilly didn’t bat an eye at that revelation, by the way”.

Also ArubaTruth before you take the Bill O’Reilly talking point that he does not speculate in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway or that Bill O’Reilly some how is opposed to a boycott, you may want to listen to Bill, in his own words. (AUDIO)

O’REILLY: Well, I think you might be right in the sense that, you know, individual boycott, very difficult. We hurt France, but it took, you know, millions of Americans to say, “I’m not gonna buy French stuff.” And — but here’s the deal, [caller], here’s how you could do this. If it gets to the point where it’s obvious the Aruba government is whitewashing the case, then what I’ll do is call for the cruise ship companies not to stop there. And that puts pressure on these cruise ships, you know, to either say yes or no.

When Bill O’Reilly stated, “So when answering an email on the boycott, O’Reilly said to give Aruba some more time”, I hardly think that Aruba wants the rope that O’Reilly is offering. There is a lot to be said about the individual who quickly rushes into a statement or cause like a boycott as Dr. Phil did and Bill O’Reilly who gives one enough rope to hand themselves. Do not forget the words (Talking Point Memo) that O’Reilly stated on the O’Reilly Factor, It Just Can’t Get Much Hotter In Aruba… Friday, July 15, 2005.

Just imagine yourself losing a child, not knowing what’s going on for months. That is cruel and unusual punishment. I don’t care what Dutch law says. There are ways to get around that, ways to get things done. It is on the Arubans to level with the Holloway family.

If the Aruban government does not do that, then all Americans should take it personally. That means thinking not twice, but many times about traveling to Aruba. No family should be treated this way. The Holloway’s have a right to know where the investigation stands.

“Talking Points” understands the legal eagles will pick apart this memo, citing Dutch law, blah, blah, blah. Again, there are ways to comfort the suffering family without violating the law.

The Aruban government is now on notice. You better figure this one out fast. And that’s “The Memo.”

So I guess when and if Bill O’Reilly asks for a boycott after responsibly giving it time ArubaTruth will still stand behind Mr. O’Reilly or will they change their minds at that point and lump him in with Dr. Phil? Although the fact remains that any called for boycott remains slim, no one can say for sure that one will never be called for and more importantly to the story that Bill O’Reilly be referenced by ArubaTruth as the voice of reason.

UPDATE: Who could forget this video of Bill O’Reilly making Ruben and the Aruban government looking less than stellar?
