Indiana Senate Election 2010: Another Problem for Democrats – Mike Pence (R) 47%, Evan Bayh (D) 44%

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh could be facing political extinction in 2010.

Welcome Indiana incumbent Senator Evan Bayh to the latest in a long line of Democrats that are in trouble of losing their political power come November 2010 thanks to President Barack Hussein Obama’s socialist agenda. According to the most recent Rasmussen poll, Republican Congressman Mike Pence leads Democrat incumbent Evan Bayh 47% to 44%.

The Obama connection is an anchor on incumbent Democrats

Indiana Senator Evan Bayh is another Democratic incumbent who could find himself in a tough reelection battle this fall. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds that Bayh attracts support from just 44% or 45% of voters when matched against his top potential Republican challengers.

Congressman Mike Pence is reportedly considering running against Bayh. At this time, he attracts 47% of the vote while Bayh picks up 44%.

As pointed out by Hot Air, more troubling for Bayh is that the incumbent does not get more than 45% in any one of the three Rasmussen polls against Republican candidates. A troubling sub 50% indicator for any incumbent.

Add Indiana to the list of states that Democrats will have to spend big money in order to defend. The once thought safe Democrat seat of moderate Evan Bayh is now in play and if Pence is the candidate, Dems will have real trouble holding the seat.   Could Republicans be on their way to taking Evan Bayh’s Senate seat as well thanks to Obamacare and the President’s mishandling of the economy? Just 37% of Indiana voters favor the plan, while 60% oppose it. Although the Hoosier state voted for Barack Obama in 2008, they are presently disenchanted with the way in which The One has handled his job as President.

In 2008, Barack Obama narrowly carried Indiana with 50% of the vote. However, just 43% of Hoosier voters currently approve of the way Obama is performing his role as president. That decline is consistent with the national trend as measured in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll. Fifty-six percent (56%) of Indiana voters now disapprove of the president’s performance. The current figures include 16% who Strongly Approve and 48% who Strongly Disapprove.

UPDATE I: Mike Pence Will Not Run for fir Indiana Senate

UPDATE II: Hmm … Pence does not rule out a Presidental run in 2012 but says no to a Senate battle against Democrat Evan Bayh. There’s a team player. Kinda got the cart before the horse there Pence.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said Tuesday that he would consider a run for president in 2012 under the right circumstances.

Pence, who ruled out a bid for Senate in 2010 this morning, said he has thought about running for the GOP nomination for the presidency, though he emphasized that he’s focused on Republicans’ midterm elections this fall.

Looks like it will be up to former Rep. John Hostettle to carry the banner against Bayh in 2010.
