Could the Garden State being turning Red?

The Gubernatorial race in the Garden State is being billed as an Obama referendum. It might just be the Change we can Believe In.” The Gubernatorial races in NJ and VA are being touted as the precursor to the 2010 midterm elections. Republicans are ahead in both races.

What might just be playing out as the political sign of the times election, Incumbent Democratic NJ Governor Jon Corzine is down big to rival Chris Christie. That battle for the Garden State Governorship has challenger Chris Christie up by 13 points over Jon Corzine in a recent Rasmussen poll.

Republican challenger Chris Christie has regained his 13-point lead over incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine in New Jersey’s closely watched gubernatorial race.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey of voters in the Garden State finds Christie on top 50% to 37%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are not sure.

One has to wonder what the effect of being a Democratic incumbent is in this terrible economy. Also, is Obama having negative coattail affect? The once wonder boy and Obamamesiah may actually be a drag on Democrats in their bid for re-election. Who knew in 6 short months that Obama would be an anchor to his party?

Christie lead by 13 points in June, was down to 7 points in July and now back up to 13. How much can be attributed to the sudden unpopularity of Obamacare and Obama’s sliding poll numbers? And Americans blame Obama for the deficit.

Obama also appears to be aiding Republicans in Virginia as Public Policy Polling has Republican Bob McDonnell has opened up a 51-37 lead over Democrat Creigh Deeds in the race to be Virginia’s next Governor.
