Former Boston Red Sox Pitcher Curt Schilling Might Run for the Late Ted Kennedy’s Senate Seat

Curt Schilling would truely be Washington, DC change you could believe in …

Is former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling going to run for the US Senate seat of the deceased Ted Kennedy? Schilling did not say yes, he did not say no. Curt Schilling basically said that he is not ruling out possible run for Ted Kennedy’s.  He would not be the first individual who went from the pitching mound to the Senate.

 ”I’ve got a lot on my plate,” says Schilling. “Right now, I’m not even going to speculate on it.”

But, Schilling admits he would need to make a decision pretty quickly.

“I think for the first time in a long time, it will take the right candidate,” Schilling said of a Republican beating a Democrat for the Senate seat.

“I have been contacted,” says Schilling about a possible Senate run.

While my family is obviously the priority, and 38 Studios is a priority, I do have some interest in the possibility. That being said, to get to there from where I am today, many many things would have to align themselves for that to truly happen. I am not going to comment further on the matter since at this point it would be speculation on top of speculation.

My hope is that whatever happens, and whomever it happens to, this state makes the decision and chooses the best person, regardless of sex, race, religion or political affiliation, to help get this state back to the place it deserves to be.

Per The Hill via the Boston Globe, Schilling would likely run as a Republican as he endorsed GWB in 2004 and McCain in 2008. As an aside, I was at a Bush rally in New Hampshire during the 2004  Presidential campaign where Schilling was scheduled to speak and bring down the house or should I say airport hanger at Pease when suddenly he was not allowed to by liberal Red Sox ownership. It became just an introduction.

However, therer is no denying his passion or opinions. Talk about a shake up to the status quo in Washington, DC.

UPDATE I: Schilling ineligible to run as Republican

Rules, what rules? Rules never got in the way of the Kennedy’s.

But Schilling, who has enthusiastically campaigned for former President Bush and John McCain in past presidential elections, has said that he’s a registered Independent voter. Massachusetts election law requires that anyone seeking a party nomination to be enrolled with the party for at least 90 days before the Nov. 3 deadline for filing nomination papers with the state Elections Division.
