Night Light has almost got it right, or left. out.

Ellen at BOPnews neatly summarizes the outrage and indignation Democratic senators are expressing on cable talk shows and on the Senate floor.    What astounds me is their surprise, and the freshness of their fury.   Pat Leahy’s angry now, eight months after being told to fuck himself?   That’s why these guys are losers.    If they had been on the ball, they’d be cool-headed and on the attack right now.   Their off-balance apoplexy stems from their ongoing inability to grasp what is really happening here – a coup d’etat against the entire notion of a collegial two-party system based on honest differences of opinion, mediated through a reasonably fair fight  officiated by the voting public.

Well, you are right, the Democrats are weak. They have lost on all fronts and are learning how to be a minority party. The problem is every once in a while they have a hallucination that they are in the majority. They are blocking the judges from a up or down vote. They did it in the 2004 cycle, got their asses handed to them (see lobbyist Daschle). Odds are, they will see the same results in 2006 unless the Republicans decide to do something real stupid.

Now RJ, here is a bone for you, I think changing  the filibuster precedent is stupid for the Republicans. They have been absolute wimps letting the Democrats get away with the paper filibuster. MAKE THEM EARN IT!

Get ol Teddy up there talking for a couple of hours, Robert Byrd is good for a day or two, heck, that is his normal speech length. Once he gets off the script his people write for him, he can go and reminisce about his early career as an organizer for the KKK. Let Hillary wow them with her charm. See how powerful Harry Reid’s machismo is.  Get America excited to see the Democrats hold the floor for a few days. Watch America see what a filibuster is. A REAL FILIBUSTER. Get the people interested.

And when they run out of steam, and the polls show how horrid this group are, then vote in the judges. Sure you will go without sleep for a couple of days. We are paying you good money for you to do so, But show the Democrats what ladies and Gentleman you can be. Even you Rick Santorum, with your idiotic Nazi comment. You may redeem yourself.

Because on a cool evening in 2006 when the Republicans have the 60 votes in the Senate, and the Democrats are throwing eggs at Al Bowie Deans house, we can have a nice cold cocktail and toast ourselves.

Because, when you let America see what the Democrats stand for, life is good. Very good.
