The Bizarre John Edwards Affair Doomsday Strategy … Was their One for his Make Up as Well?
Posted in: Bizarre,John Edwards,Politics,Presidential Election 2008
The campaign staff of Democratic Presidential wannabe had a “Doomsday” strategy regarding his affair. This is priceless. Did they also have a doomsday strategy if Edwards’ comb and hair spray malfunctioned?
But by late December, early January of last year, several people in his inner circle began to think the rumors were true.
Several of them had gotten together and devised a “doomsday” strategy of sorts.
Basically, if it looked like Edwards was going to win the Democratic Party nomination, they were going to sabotage his campaign, several former Edwards’ staffers have told me.
They said they were Democrats first, and if it looked like Edwards was going to become the nominee, they were going to bring down the campaign.
Are we really supposed to believe that political staffers for a Presidential candidate would sabotage a campaign if they thought their candidate was going to win and hurt their party due to an affair? REALLY? First, these people would never work in Washington again as we are supposed to believe that only Edwards is guilty of having an affair. Second, didn’t staffers already have this opportunity with a previous President? Where were these noble staffers when Bill Clinton was running for the party nomination? It’s not like even more rumors were out there when the Clinton ran. BTW, I wonder where George Stephanopoulos’ “doomsday” strategy was with his former boss?
Spare us the the grand idea that staffers would ever have done such a thing. We are supposed to believe that staffers had the courage to stand up to the very person they are working for to get elected and ruin his or her political career. These people expected to work again? It’s rather convenient that they come out with now that John Edwards name is political mud. Video of the round table discussion on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos can bee seen HERE. How could anyone even have considered Edwards a viable candidate?
As perfectly stated at RED STATE, “I don’t know what’s funnier: that they had a ‘doomsday strategy’, or that there was actually anybody left by January 2008 that honestly thought that Edwards had a shot at winning the Democratic nomination.”
UPDATE I: As reported at CNN, Joe Trippi, a former top aide to John Edwards, refutes claim Edwards staffers knew of affair. Joe Trippi seems to be saying exactly what we surmised, the story was BS.
Joe Trippi, a former top aide to John Edwards, is sharply refuting a report a handful of campaign staffers knew about the former presidential candidate’s affair and had plans to sabotage his White House bid, telling CNN Monday the claim is “complete bull s**t.”
“No one that I know had such a plan, I wasn’t involved in a plan like that, it didn’t exist, it’s a fantasy,” Trippi said in a phone interview.
