OBAMA – LINCOLN COMPARISON, GET REAL!
Hat Tip: Vanderbilt ‘09
The main stream media’s fascination to make comparisons between Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln is as disrespectful as it gets to who many believe was the United States greatest President. There is a thing called earning respect, not being handed it. The MSM would have everyone believe that Obama is Lincolnesque. Until you have actually done something other than talk about hope, you are not worthy. An individual is not a great President, leader or man of character because someone says they are, it is because we know they are.
President’s Day 2009 has passed without much fanfare. President Obama sees himself as the new Abraham Lincoln reincarnated. Many of us ordinary folks cannot reconcile that view with reality. A slogan comes to mind: “If the hat don’t fit, you must quit!” He could not fill Lincoln’s shoes either. (Vanderbilt – ‘09)
C-SPAN just recently conducted a survey of the best Presidential leaders in American history. What, Obama was not rated #1 or in the top 5? Blasphemy!
Although, Abraham Lincoln was ranked number 1 followed by George Washington, FDR and Teddy Roosevelt. However, this poll lost all credibility when it ranked Jimmy “Misery Index” Carter #25. Because Carter showed such leadership with the economy, Iran hostages, war in Afghanistan, 1980 Summer Olympics, gas prices and the list goes on. Obama does not really need to harken back to the Great Depression when referencing today’s economy, he actually just needs to re-visit the Carter Administration when we had double digit unemployment, inflation and interest rates.
CNN was quick to point out that President George W. Bush was #36 in the poll. As Jules Crittenden writes, the non-partisan poll some how finds thwarting terrorism attacks and freeing 50 million people from tyranny as leadership.
Shocker, Bill Clinton moves up 6 spots to #15 because he did so much as a leader as President. Clinton’s lack of effort in dealing with terrorism is rewarded. Interestingly enough, no one is mentioning Truman’s poll ratings when he left office, yet some how history writes he was in the top 10.
What the poll does make one wonder is how Lincoln would have been perceived today rather than all these years to look back and see his success.
