What a Sad State of Affairs … Welcome to the Socialist Republic of New England … Not One Rep US Rep in Congress

CHANGE and not for the better. How can all of “We the People” be represented if only one party is in office? The State of Connecticut did itself no favors Tuesday night when they defeated 11 term Representative, Christopher Shays. Change? It hardly seems like change in the Nutmeg state or in the rest of New England … it appears to be more of the liberal same.

I thought if there is one thing that the Presidential Election of 2008 was supposed to represent would be that of diversity. Never is only all of one thing ever a good thing. Then how come the same is not true with the fact that America is now looking a a Democratic controlled White House, Senate and House of Representatives. The lack of any real checks and balances is not a blessing for the USA or any change that can be considered positive. All we have to do is look back into the recent past and see what happened when Republicans controlled all three.

However, following the 2008 elections an even more disturbing trend has occurred and one that makes many wonder how the political landscape of a region could be dominated so by one party. After the loss of US Representative Christopher Shays of Connecticut, the Republican party is now completely void of any representatives from New England. It is bad enough that Shays, a tremendous asset to his district for years, lost but the fact that not one republican exists in the New England states defies logic. The voters in CT stated they wanted “CHANGE” but exactly what do Shays ever do that was wrong and not positive for his states where anyone would want change. Instead for all the good that Shays has done for CT, for his efforts he is swept out of office in a wave of change.

But he was no match for the long coattails of Barack Obama in Tuesday’s election. The moderate Republican seeking his 11th term was bested by Democrat Jim Himes, 142,979 votes to 135,630 votes.

Shays, 63, was trounced in Bridgeport, Connecticut’s largest city, as well as Stamford and Norwalk, in his failed 11th bid for re-election. When he leaves office in January, there will be no New England Republicans in the House of Representatives.

“It’s a phenomenon that he was up against,” said Gary Rose, politics professor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. “In many ways he was really running against the Obama mystique than he was running against Himes.”

Shays had to persuade voters like Shirley Corley, a nurse who believed Obama’s candidacy was ordained by God. “I feel with the way the world is going now, he was chosen for such a time as this,” she said.

Corley, who lives in Bridgeport, said she believed she voted long ago for Shays, but this time chose Himes and other Democrats, hoping for change.

How can an entire region of the country, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut? How could anyone say that those that are not Democrats are actually represented in any fashion?   What did people really vote for, change? Change on a national level is one thing; however, voting for change when none was needed is quite something different. This represents a truly disturbing trend in politics. Why would anyone who is a Republican move to New England where they could never have a voice or representation? It is hard to believe that this area of the country has pulled so far left in the last 30 years.
