Democrats Blink to Pressure … Democrats to let Offshore Drilling Ban Expire … Victory for Republicans and the People

Democrats blink and the offshore drilling ban is about to expire. I thought that Democrats were supposed to feel our pain? Turns out the only pain they respond to is that of the voters had they tried to continue to ban offshore oil drilling.
Have House Democrats finally caved to the pressure of Republicans and the American people to the issue of offshore drilling for oil? It appears that way. Democrats had clung to the belief that only a partial repeal of the drilling moratorium would be required; however, the opposition for banning offshore drilling in polls has been so overwhelming that Democrats have no choice to actually do the will and work of the people rather than the will of the environmental lobbyists. Stop the ACLU declares that Democrats have surrendered on blocking oil drilling. Also Hot Air states, the drilling battle has been won; however, the debate continues for a broad reaching energy policy to be finally completed.
Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in a months-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., told reporters Tuesday that a provision continuing the moratorium will be dropped this year from a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running after Congress recesses for the election.
Republicans have made lifting the ban a key campaign issue after gasoline prices spiked this summer and public opinion turned in favor of more drilling. President Bush lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling in July.
Democrats are changing their minds minds when it comes to the offshore drilling ban for one reason … they cannot allow the government to be shut down over such a popular issue of the people prior to an election. Period! Sadly enough, the question lingers as to why this Democratic controlled Congress could not write and pass an energy bill for “We the People”.
