Obama Surrogate Wesley Clark Goes after John McCain, His Patriotism and War Record

Did Wes Clark’s hateful comments against Republican Presidential candidate John McCain in effect do just the opposite than what was intended? Clark, in his lack of judgement has actually exposed Barack Obama for the not ready for prime time Presidential candidate that he truly is. If Clark states that McCain’s service to his country is not a qualification, then what has the neophyte Obama ever done to claim the role?

Elections are as much about what the presidency is, and to that end, all of these qualifications service a particular view of what the presidency ought to be about. In that way, John McCain’s military service, and especially his decision, as a POW, not to jump the line and walk out of prison when offered, is a piece of who the man is and tells us about the decisions he has made. Same with Obama and his post-law school career choice.

Every one wondered how low Democrats and the Obama campaign would sink to attack John McCain to win the White House. Well wonder no longer. General Wesley Clark, an Obama campaign surrogate attacked McCain and his military service record calling it basically irrelevant and that McCain was “untested and untried.” You heard that correct. An Obama surrogate attacking a man that served his country, was a POW in Vietnam, stayed in Vietnam when he had an opportunity to go home because he would not leave his comrades behind, has served as a US Representative and Senator, served on the Armed Forces Committee … that person is some how not tried and tested.

Gen. Wesley Clark, acting as a surrogate for Barack Obama’s campaign, invoked John McCain’s military service against him in one of the more personal attacks on the Republican presidential nominee this election cycle.

Clark said that McCain lacked the executive experience necessary to be president, calling him “untested and untried” on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” And in saying so, he took a few swipes at McCain’s military service.

After saying, “I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in the armed forces, as a prisoner of war,” he added that these experiences in no way qualify McCain to be president in his view. (Yahoo News)

How rotten an individual must one be to even makes these types of comments about a fellow person who served his country in the military? Getting ‘shot down in plane’ doesn’t make McCain qualified to be President. Do not think for one minute that the Obama campaign is not controlling this message.

Even though the Obama campaign and Obama are distancing themselves from the comments, Obama hardly came out strong enough against Clark. However, if one thinks about it, why should they … they created the news story. Do not think for one second that Obama’s campaign did not orchestrate this Clark stunt as a way to explain away Obama’s lack of military service to his country.

At a news conference here Monday, McCain himself said of Clark’s comment, “That kind of thing is unnecessary” and distracts from real pocketbook issues voters care about.

About the same time, Obama told an audience in Independence, Mo., that McCain had “endured physical torment in service to our country” and “no one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters on both sides.”

As Obama condemns the comments, Wesley Clark refuses to back down. He simply calls McCain a hero,but I am not sorry for what I said. With such comments like Clark made, why was Obama’s response so weak? If Obama truly respected McCain’s service and thought of him as honorable, he would bounce Clark from his campaign. If not, it shows just how honorable Obama really is.
