The Odd Couple: Al Gore and Rush Limbaugh Both Nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize

Now for something completely different. Both former VP Al Gore and Conservative radio talk show icon Rush Limbaugh have been nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. It doesn’t get much more diverse than that. “Can these two men vie for the Nobel Peace Prize, without driving each other crazy?” Do I hear the theme from The Odd Couple in the background?

Al Gore was nominated for his wide-reaching efforts to draw the world’s attention to the dangers of global warming. One wonders why Al Gore didn’t do more when he was in office to get Kyoto passed. Too bad Kyoto has preferential treatment for countries like China and other emerging nations.

“A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference, and Al Gore has made a difference,” Conservative Member of Parliament Boerge Brende, a former minister of environment and then of trade, told The Associated Press. During eight years as Bill Clinton’s vice president, Gore pushed for climate measures, including for the Kyoto Treaty. Since leaving office in 2001 he has campaigned worldwide, including with his Oscar-nominated documentary on climate change called “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Rush Limbaugh was nominated by the Landmark Legal Foundation for the Nobel Peace Prize. This I have to see. Does anyone think that Rush has a prayer when past Nobel Peace Prize winners include Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat, Kofi Annan and Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the USSR, for helped to bring the Cold War to an end. Limbaugh, whose daily radio show is heard by more than 20 million people on more than 600 radio stations in the United States and around the world, was nominated for the prestigious award for his “nearly two decades of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all humankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin. These are the only real cornerstones of just and lasting peace throughout the world,” said Landmark President Mark R. Levin.
