Aruba Library Flooded due to rain? Wait Until you Read the solution.

The Aruban national library in Oranjestad flooded last week and part of the ceiling caved in due to heavy rains. Beginning to sound like the “Big Dig”. Never thought it rained that much in Aruba to cause such an event to occur. The ATA may have to redo their tourism brochures. Wait until you read their solution to the problem. Is this just a microcosm of how all problems are solved in Aruba? A permanent solution, given how long it takes problems to be dealt with one wonders what the definition of “temporary” is?

The situation is dangerous, because the power supply is also affected by the leak. In anticipation of a permanent solution, the books get covered with plastic and the power disconnected when it rains.

ARUBA – Part of the ceiling of the national library in Oranjestad caved in last week, due to heavy rainfall.  More than 1000 books were damaged. The library personnel had to move part of the bookcases, with the consequence that especially the Dutch books are not easy to reach now.  Also the study hall flooded and cannot be used at this moment. The rain also leaked in on the second floor. 
The damage is substantial. In addition to the damaged books, also the floors, walls, and ceiling are covered with mold and mildew. Part of the light boxes is wet. The situation is dangerous, because the power supply is also affected by the leak. In anticipation of a permanent solution, the books get covered with plastic and the power disconnected when it rains.
