Dutch Lawmaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali To Be Welcomed In USA After Dutch Fail to Protect Her

I do not know if you have followed the story of Ayaan Hirsi Ali, but it is a very sad and yet moving story of one brave woman standing up to the ills of society and becoming a change agent. Ayaan was born in Somalia and left after her parents forced her to marry a cousin which she refused to do. She left to live in the Netherlands and held menial jobs as she attended University.
She won a seat in the Dutch Parliament and has been an outspoken critic of Islam and its subjuctation of women. She also wrote a script called Submission which was turned into a movie by Theo Van Gogh critizing the treatment of women throughout the Islamic world. Shortly after the film was released, Theo Van Gogh was murdered on the streets of Amsterdam and threats against Ayaan were made.
She has been under police protection for the past 2 years and recently the people who also live in the apartment that she lives in have asked her to move out. Ayaan Hirsi Ali also is being accused of supplying false information which the Dutch (and her own political party) are using to question whether she should remain in the country and keep her passport.
It is an amazing story and shows the risks of being critical of the Muslim faith in Holland and the danger she lives in daily. In the face of all the acrimony and death threats she is facing, she has decided to leave the country and her position in the government.
Fortunately, Ayaan Harsi Ali has the United States to fall back on. If the Dutch are too troubled to have such a fine woman in their country we will be perfectly happy to let her come to the United States. She has accepted a position with the conservative American Enterprise Institute.
Today, the Robert Zoellick, a Deputy Secretary of United States State Department stated “The government of the Netherlands is still discussing her ultimate status and that is … for the Netherlands to determine along the way, but she is obviously welcome to the United States”. He added that if she did move to the United States her status would depend on decisions taken by the Dutch government and that her special security needs would be attended to. (via Reuters)
So the Dutch think it is too dangerous to have a woman living in their building that speaks out against Muslim treatment of woman? They will force her out of the country because she mistated the facts on her assylum paperwork even though she rose to be a leading political figure in her tolerant country.
It does make you wonder where the Dutch are these days. It is like putting lipstick on a pig. They can talk all day about their tolerance and system of laws, but when the light of day shines on their society, it is a rotting corpse.
