Chalk one up for the forces against evil. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s top military commander has been captured in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani. According to reports, Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody with American and Pakistani intelligence officials taking part in interrogations.
The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.
Interrogated, what no Miranda rights and an attorney provided? Flopping Aces has the contrasting differences as to how the LEFT and RIGHT perceive this victory in the war on terror and how to proceed. Michelle Malkin asks the question that we all would like to know regarding this big fish capture … “What would Eric Holder say?”
I do have to chuckle about the following comment from the NY Times article regarding printing potentially sensitive information. Because they always followed this policy when George W. Bush was in office, didn’t they?
The Times is publishing the news now because White House officials acknowledged that the capture of Mullah Baradar was becoming widely known in the region.
Several American government officials gave details about the raid on the condition that they not be named, because the operation was classified.
I think it is important to note that Pakistan participated in this capture and is openly saying so. Congrats all the way around on the capture.
