How Sad, Elizabeth Edwards Stops Cancer Treatment, Prognosis Described as Terminal (Update: Elizabeth Edwards Loses Battle with Cancer)

Posted in: Deceased,Healthcare,John Edwards,Obituary

My prayers go out to Elizabeth Edwards, what strength and grace during such difficult times.

What terrible news for Elizabeth Edwards with regards to her battle with cancer. It is being reported that Elizabeth Edwards is stopping her cancer treatment as she was informed bydoctors that further treatment would be unproductive. Terrible, just terrible. Having known many who have passed away from cancer, including my mom, I can only wish Elizabeth Edwards my prayers and the strength to remain positive during these difficult times. God bless and may the peace of the Lord be with you.

Elizabeth Edwards is surrounded by family and friends in her North Carolina home after being informed by her doctors that further cancer treatment would be unproductive.

“Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive,” the Edwards family said Monday in a statement. “She is resting at home with family and friends and has posted this message to friends on her Facebook page.”

The message from Edwards, the wife of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards, reads:

“You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope. These graces have carried me through difficult times and they have brought more joy to the good times than I ever could have imagined. The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And, yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human.

Honestly, if it were me, I would have referenced God as one of my three saving graces; however, you know … when discussing an all too young dying woman like Elizabeth Edwards, I will cut her some slack. I am sure she will come to peace with her God before she passes and that is between Elizabeth and her God. She will be at peace soon.

Elizabeth Edwards has been in the public eye as she has battled cancer and had to endure far too much than any women should be expected to, including her husband John Edwards affair. Elizabeth Edwards has shown the class, grace, will and strenght in battling cancer. Maybe John Edwards could have used some of that class.

Edwards, 61, who is estranged from her husband and one-time presidential hopeful John Edwards, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004.

“Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive,” said a statement released by Edwards’ family. “She is resting at home with family and friends.”

After all her battles, sadly doctors told Edwards that further treatment was futile as the cancer had spread to her liver. Doctors say that her prognosis was described in terms of weeks, not months.

Edwards was told by her doctors last week that additional cancer treatments were futile, said a source close to the family. Her prognosis was described in terms of weeks, not months, the source said.

She is receiving treatment and medications, however, for symptoms and side effects.

“She is not in pain, Elizabeth is in good spirits,” said the source. “She has prepared for this”

UPDATE I: Elizabeth Edwards Loses Battle with Cancer

61 is just too young. That was just too quick. Just the other day we were posting that Elizabeth Edwards did not have long and today she passes away after her 6 year battle with cancer. Our prayers go out to her family and friends. In times like this, we put our politics aside as I agreed little with Elizabeth Edwards or her estranged dirt bag, baby daddy husband John Edwards. No one should have ever had to deal with battling cancer and a cheating husband. In the end, Elizabeth Edwards lived her life with grace, compassion and truly was the bigger person. Having had a mom who passed after a 25 year battle with cancer I can only provide my prayers for Elizabeth and wish for the peace of the Lord. Rest in Peace.

Elizabeth Edwards, who remade the role of the political spouse for a new media age, died Tuesday at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C., after a six-year struggle with cancer.

Edwards, a lawyer, best-selling author and the wife of former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, was 61.

“Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence, but she remains the heart of this family,” her family said in a statement. “We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life. On behalf of Elizabeth, we want to express our gratitude to the thousands of kindred spirits who moved and inspired her along the way. Your support and prayers touched our entire family.”
