American Idol and the South

Here is a honest question.

Why are all of the American Idol winners from the South?

Kelly, Rueben, Fantasia, and now Bo or Kerry all hail from the South.

Are the southerners more talented, or are the people who live in the south the ones who vote in this competition.

I think it is the former, but I am biased.
