At 1 p.m., Padgett had sent Davis, who is due next week with a daughter, a Facebook message telling her, “I want to see my niece being born.”

Padgett, a mother of two and stepmother of one, would never leave her children behind, Davis said. The family had just celebrated her wedding to husband, Mica Padgett, on Sept. 6 in Walnutport.
