NFL Championship games … New England Patriots v. SD Chargers and Green bay Packers vs. Giants … What is the NFL Thinking, Late Start Game in GB?
What does the NFL stand for these days, the National Financial League? It certainly does not stand for fan or football. Can someone in the NFL offices please explain to me why in hell anyone would schedule a night game (6:30 pm) in Green Bay, WI for the Championship game of the NFC? Are you crazy?
No one loves outside playoff football more than myself. Personally, I think its a must as domes are a travesty to the sport. However, the game should be played in the normal context of how it was intended, not artificially messed with by changing start dates. After all, the winner gets a birth in the Super Bowl.
Having home field advantage is one thing and some thing that the Packers have earned. However, to schedule a football game later than what is the norm for a regular Sunday is insane. The famed “Ice Bowl” played in Green Bay in 1967 on Lambeau Field was cold enough at 13 degrees below zero. However, it was also played during the day, night late evening into the night. The stupidity and greediness of the NFL to have a later start and thus in their view more eyes on TV screens for ratings is beyond absurd. Football players will try to be advancing to the Super Bowl in -4 degree weather conditions in Green Bay with wind chills making it even worse. Wait until the sun goes down and see just how much colder it gets. How many people will get frost bite all at the expense of starting a game later than it need be?
What ever happened to the days when the two NFL Championship Games were played at 1 pm and 4 pm EDT? What is the point to change these times to later, other than ratings and advertising? It certainly cannot be for the benefit of the players. Night games in New England or Green Bay are beyond stupid. The money grubbing NFL should be ashamed of itself.
Obviously, no one knows when these games are first set where they will be played. If the Cowboys had won last week, this game would have been played in Dallas, TX instead of frigid Green Bay. However, that is why playing games at 1 and 4 make sense.
In conclusion, if the NFL has no problem with inflicting players with these types of conditions that hamper their skills, then why is the Super Bowl always played in a warm weather site or a northern Dome? Imagine what would happen if the Super Bowl was played in Buffalo, Green Bay, Foxboro or Giant Stadium in late January or early February. There is a reason why it would never happen and for that same reason … Championship games should never be started later than what is deemed normal regular season start times.
