Congress Approval Rating at 18% According to Gallup Poll … A Well Deserved Number

Congressional approval rating has tied an all time low at 18%, according to a Gallup Poll. As the media only focuses on President Bush’s low job approval rating, Congress has sunk to all time lows. The media nor Democrats cannot blame GWB for this one, the Democratically controlled Congress did this all on their own the old fashion way … They earned it. However, that is not to say that all politicians need to do a reality check.

The American people in all political spectrums are tired of their elected officials doing nothing. Voters ousted Republicans out of control of the House and Senate in 2006 because of complacency. Democrats since taking control have done nothing of what they promised that got them elected. Is it any wonder why approval ratings are so low? When one does nothing, gets no results and goes back on their word what would one expect but low approval ratings. The following holds true for most every elected politician, there is such a political disconnect between the voter and the politician today that it has become the norm for people to be disappointed.

Whether its Democrats lying to their constituents regarding a quick pull out of Iraq to get votes or Republicans disappointing their followers with pathetic attempts at ending illegal immigration, all Americans are severely disappointed in the lack of a spine by their elected officials. Gone are the days of idle political promises to get elected … Americans expect and demand results.

That 18% job approval rating matches the low recorded in March 1992, when a check-bouncing scandal was one of several scandals besetting Congress, leading many states to pass term limits measures for U.S. representatives (which the Supreme Court later declared unconstitutional). Congress had a similarly low 19% approval rating during the energy crisis in the summer of 1979.

Democrats Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi promised a new and ethical way of doing business in Washington. That was short lived and so was the honeymoon that the American people had with the Democrats. One can blame the low numbers on Iraq if one wishes to take the lazy approach. The truth of the matter is that American, whether they be Republican, Democrat or Independent, are tired of the lies, the promises and the “do nothing” approach of their elected politicians.

But that “honeymoon” period for the new Democratically controlled Congress was brief, as its job ratings dropped below 30% in March 2007 and have now fallen below where they were just before the Democrats took over. (The Gallup Poll)
