Dean Heads South

Posted in: Main

Howard Dean heads south to Nashville, Tennessee to energize the Democratic base. Dean made the comment at the Democratic fundraiser, ”I don’t believe in blue states or red states,” the former 2004 presidential candidate said. ”I believe in purple states — and some are more purple than others.” Dean’s theory is that one must campaign in the South in order to attempt to win in the South in 2008. Funny, too bad he did not use the same philosophy in his own failed 2004 Democratic Primary run.

The idea of Dean masquerading as a Son of The South is as comical as it may get. I am sure that Republicans would like to win in national races in states like MA & NY but just because one campaigns there does not mean you will have a snowballs Dean’s chance in hell the South of actually winning. There are enough Democratic party members who disagree with Dean being named Party Chair let alone believing his strategy that will work in the Southern Red States.

To show that Dean understands the South and he can be as religious as the next person, he comes out with this gem:

”We need to talk about values and not be afraid of them,” he said, going on to make two biblical references.

In the first he said Jesus’ directive to ”love thy neighbor” didn’t mean one could choose which ones to love. He then remarked that Republicans never brought up the scriptural verse saying it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven.

”We should never let anybody tell us we don’t respect faith,” he said.

I feel obligated to give Howard Dean a bit of advice. Do not preach Religion 101 to Southerners who are religious 24-7-365 and who not only can cite verse but live by the words as well.
