Aruban Judge Delays Ruling in Van der Sloot Detention

According to sources, the Judge in Aruba did not give a ruling in today’s extension hearing for Joran Van der Sloot. He has until the deadline of September 4, Jorans release date, to do so.

Today Prosecutors requested a 30 day extension in the detainment of Joran Van der Sloot. Joran’s attorney, Antonio Carlo, said that Prosecutors presented what was characterized as two new allegations against his client. As the AP reported,

Carlo said prosecutors introduced two allegations of a “sexual nature” against van der Sloot. He declined to provide details on the allegations, but insisted they were not new.

“We don’t consider them new circumstances,” he said. “They have been in the file for about two months.”

Prosecutors could not be reached for comment.

However, we understand from sources that one of the accusations involved the Natalee Holloway case while the other one pertained to an unrelated sexual matter. Joran’s attorney stated that both of these issues were already included in the Prosecutions original accusations.

Also according to the AP and Aruban sources, Joran Van der Sloot became upset and cried during the closed hearing “but answered all of the judge’s questions”.

Developing: The Kalpoe brothers day in court …

Update: The Kalpoe brothers also returned to court for questioning after their re-arrests on Friday. The judge had ruled that they could be held for at least eight days while they build their case.

The Kalpoe brothers were also questioned during van der Sloot’s hearing, Carlo said.

The two were arrested Friday, when a judge ruled that prosecutors had enough evidence to hold them for at least eight days while they build their case.

Van der Sloot’s parents tried to attend the hearing but were barred from entering because their son is an adult, Carlo said.

The brothers also were taken to the court Wednesday about two hours after van der Sloot, but the reason was unclear. Their defense attorneys, who declined to speak to reporters, have filed motions challenging their detention.

According to sources the attorneys for Deepak and Satish were in court today arguing that due to a procedural error in the courts detention ruling last Friday and their clients should be released.

Also it appears that according to Satish Kalpoe’s attorney the new charges involved pictures of a girl who was 14 at the time of the photos. Zeppenfeldt, Satish’s attorney claimed that the girl consented to the photos; however, in Aruba like in many countries there are age of consent laws.

In a strange turn of events after both the Van der Sloot and Kalpoe brothers hearings, the Judge asked the three defendants to return to the Court for more questioning that lasted 20 to 30 minutes.
