Blogs Keeping the Natalee Holloway Story Alive

The Birmingham News, Natalee’s Holloway’s home town paper has done a great article by Jeremy Gray, “Blogs filled with talk of Holloway.” We would like to thank Jeremy for following the blog dynamic and how it has influenced and affected the Natalee Holloway story in hopes to keep the story at the forefront on the news and hopefully to a conclusion for the Holloway & Twitty families.

While the search for Natalee Holloway has been followed closely by print and broadcast journalists, the story also has received an abundance of attention from bloggers.

Every new development – and the wildest of speculations about what happened to the 18-year-old Mountain Brook High School graduate last seen in Aruba May 30 – have appeared on blogs and Web forums. Blogs, short for Web logs, are Internet journals.

Several blogs, normally devoted to politics or pop culture, have featured nothing but reports of the search for Holloway. Here are some blogs and what they are saying:

Scared Monkeys, a blog operated by Red and Tom has posted multiple daily updates on the search since May 30. Before the teen vanished, the blog had been following the confirmation proceedings of President Bush’s judicial nominees.

A June 12 post drew 1,349 comments.

Red said he began following the story because he once lived in Aruba.

“I felt connected to the story,” he said in an interview by e-mail. “I have seen so many people blame everyone, including Natalee’s parents, for allowing her to go at 18. At that age, I was there and nothing happened.”

He said the first few posts drew heavy traffic to his site and soon he started receiving tips and being referenced in mainstream news reports.

“We went from reporting the story to becoming personally involved in this mystery,” he said.

Riehl World View, a politically conservative blog operated by Dan Riehl, 47, of New Jersey, has closely monitored the search and media coverage.
