Charlie Weis Out as Head Coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Posted in: Sports
It was the most even money bet in NCCA College football … Charlie Weis has been fired as head football coach at Notre Dame. What else would one expect when a coach goes 6 and 6 when with such a soft schedule the Fighting Irish was expected to go to a BCS Bowl game and possible challenge for the National Championship this year.
Charlie Weis – OUT!
AD Jack Swarbrick has decided to make a change after Weis finished the season with a 6-6 record and four straight losses to Navy, Pitt, Connecticut and Stanford.
Weis coached Notre Dame for five years and leaves with a 35-27 record. He has told friends in South Bend he has at least six offers from NFL teams to become their offensive coordinator.
As a Notre Dame fan, all I can say is good move and it is time to turn the page and chose a coach that is deserving and fits the job, not just the hot offensive pro coordinator. Get ready for ND’s coaching Christmas wish list that will inlcude Gators Urban Meyer, Sooners Bob Stoops and Cincy’s Brian Kelly. My personal opinion, Kelly would be the best fit of all.

Now the search will be for a new head coach to bring this storied football college program back to prominence, not a 6 and 6 record. With the recruiting advantages, facilities and name recognition of ND, it is hard to believe that the Fighting Irish have had such mediocrity.
Here is the 2010 schedule, some thing to look forward to.
