One Week to Go … Republican McDonnell Has Double Digit Lead over Democrat Deeds

With one week to go before the Virginia governor election, Republican Robert McDonnell has a double digit lead  (55% – 44%) over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds. If this election turns out to be this bad, many a “Blue Dog” Democrats heads are going to begin to spin across The Potomac River in DC.

McDonnell is also buoyed by support outside Northern Virginia, where he is outperforming all other top-of-the-ticket Republican candidates this decade. Statewide, McDonnell leads Deeds among likely voters by 55 to 44 percent. McDonnell, who narrowly defeated Deeds in the race for attorney general four years ago, has been above 50 percent among likely voters in all four Post polls in the campaign

WAPO Virginia Governor’s Race Poll data. As per the NRO, the polling news for Deeds is terrible, stick a fork in him, he is done.

The governors race is being looked upon as a referendum on Barack Obama. If that is the case, The One is in some serious trouble. Whether Virginia voters want to admit it or not as to whether a vote for or against Creigh Deeds is not a reflection upon Obama, they are mistaken. The question would be … Where are the grand Obama coattails? Less than one year after Obamamania, Barack Obama fails to be at all influential in a governors race.

The fact of the matter is, even though they are unwilling to admit it, Democrats know that Obama and his socialist policies have become an anchor. It took eight years for GWB to become an issue for those Republicans that wanted to be elected, it took Obama less than one year to accomplish the same.

Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds said Monday that he hadn’t distanced himself from President Obama, even as senior Democrats in the state complained about the difficult political winds blowing in from across the Potomac River.

“I absolutely did not push the president away,” Deeds said before addressing a vote-rich retirement community in the northern Virginia suburb of Springfield.

When will Democrats get it about Obama … his popularity is about Obama … it has no coattails.
