Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Arrested in Mazatlán, Mexico by Mexican Marines, US Marshals and DEA

Mexican drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, was arrested Saturday morning at 6:40 am, February 22, 2014 at a resort in the port of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Guzman is the head of the  Sinaloa Cartel and one of the #1 drug kingpins in Mexico.  Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam said the arrest occurred without a shot being fired. He was caught with an unidentified woman. The 56 year old Guzman had been eluding capture for more than a dozen years. Mexican Marines, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Marshals Service carried out the joint operation.

The Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, head of the  Sinaloa cartel, was arrested on Saturday February 22nd at 6 am, inside a resort in the port of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. His capture was the result of an operation coordinated by Mexican and U.S. authorities, as it was informed this morning by The Associated Press.

A senior U.S. official said Guzman was captured alive in the city of Mazatlán, a tourist destination on the Pacific coast of Mexico. The official, who was not authorized to speak about the arrest, gave information on condition of anonymity.

Guzman was arrested overnight in a hotel in the Pacific beach town of Mazatlan, in his home state of Sinaloa.

He had been on the lam since escaping from prison in 2001, and no one — that we know of — came close to catching the drug lord who regularly appears on Forbes magazine list of most powerful people.

The rumor was that with that kind of money, he could be hiding anywhere in the world.

In the end, he was caught just 140 miles from the city of Culiacan, the home base for his Sinaloa drug cartel.

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman wanted in both Mexico and the United States.

In Chicago, where the city’s crime commission last year named Guzman its Public Enemy No. 1 — a designation originally crafted for Al Capone — authorities praised the arrest. Chicago is among the major destinations of the cartel’s drug flow.

“The arrest of Chapo Guzman is significant,” police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said in a statement. “This is a victory, but we know the tentacles of his cartel still exist and much more work remains to be done. Demand for narcotics will still remain, so we will continue to partner with the DEA as they fight international drug trade, and we will remain focused on our efforts to eliminate the factors that drive violence in our city.”

From New York to Chicago, Texas to San Diego, Guzman and his lieutenants are named in indictments for marijuana, cocaine and heroin trafficking, as well as racketeering, money laundering, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder.

An AMBER ALERT has been issued for 10 year old Hailey Owens who has been missing since Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri.  Hailey was grabbed in front of her own home in broad day light. The child abduction occurred around 4:50 p.m. on W. Lombard when Hailey Owens was approached by an unknown person and pulled into his vehicle. Police have described the kidnapper as a white male between the ages of 45 and 55, driving a gold 2008 Ford Ranger pickup with Missouri plate number 1YF454.

Hailey M. Owens went missing at 4:48 p.m. in Springfield. The man who allegedly took her is white, 45 to 55 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 200 pounds and has gray hair.

He might be driving a gold 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck with Missouri plate number 1YF454, police said.

Owens is described as about 5 feet 2 inches tall, 90 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and purple sandals. She has pierced ears.

UPDATE I: Amber Alert: Stranger abducts girl in west Springfield, MO.

Springfield police are investigating an abduction of a girl in the 3200 block of  West Lombard Street at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday.  The girl is 10, 5-foot-2, skinny, with sandy blonde hair and pierced ears.  She was wearing blue jean shorts.  Her name is Hailey Owens.

A neighbor who lives at 3247 W. Lombard says a man went up to Hailey, who was outside the home, and talked to her, then grabbed her and threw her in his truck.  Hailey’s mother told police that she has no idea who the man is.

Police are looking for a white man who may be driving a gold early 2000s Ford Ranger pickup that was last seen going south on Golden Avenue from Lombard.  The truck has Missouri plates IYF 454.

UPDATE II: Suspect in Custody, Hailey Owens Still Missing.

An Amber Alert remains in effect for 10 year old Hailey Owen of Springfield, MO.  An unknown man pulled her into his vehicle Tuesday afternoon. Police found him, and charged him with kidnapping, but Hailey remains missing.  A search will continue through the night.

The body of an abducted 10-year-old girl in southwest Missouri has been found, according to the girl’s family.

UPDATE IV: This morning’s 6:30AM Police press conference:

• The police have identified the suspect in custody as 45 year old Craig Michael Wood, charged with kidnapping.
• It is on an-going police investigation.
• The police made no mention of Hailey Owens’ body being found; however, parents have told media that they were informed their child has been found deceased.

UPDATE VI: Craig Michael Wood: Suspect in abduction of Springfield girl Hailey Owens arrested for murder.

By 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Springfield police say they received a tip that led them to Wood at a residence in town.  They initially believed he and Owens were heading to Oklahoma.

Wood was taken into custody and later booked for first-degree murder in the Greene County Jail, according to jail records, and an official with the sheriff’s office confirms it is the same man at the center of the abduction.

UPDATE VII: Body of missing Missouri girl found in home of elementary school coach: police.

The body of missing 10 year old Hailey Owens was found in the basement of Craig M. Woods home with a gunshot wound to her head. 45 year old Craig Michael Wood charged with first-degree murder in the death of 10-year-old Hailey Owens. Wood has also been charged with armed criminal action and child kidnapping.

A Missouri grade school coach has been charged in the murder and kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl whose suspected body was found in his basement with what police said was a gunshot wound to the head.

Craig Wood, a football coach and teacher’s aide at Springfield’s Pleasant View K-8 School, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of Hailey Owens, whose body police believe was found in a storage bin.

27 Year Old Kayla Michelle Finley Arrested and Charged with Not Returning a Jennifer Lopez Video Rental from 2005

This further emphasizes the point, nothing good comes from renting a J-Lo movie …

27 year old  Kayla Michelle Finley arrested and charged with not returning a video tape  that she rented in 2005. Making matters worse, the rental video store, Dalton Video, isn’t even in business anymore. Wait, imagine being arrested for not returning a J-Lo film, Monster-in-Law? How does one get arrested for something like this? How much could the tape or fine actually be worth? My we have come a long way in America, pot legal, but you can be arrested for not returning a video. Thankfully, technology has changed in how movies are rented these days.  Finley was arrested, and spent Thursday night in jail until her bond hearing Friday morning. A judge issued a $2,000 personal recognizance bond Friday morning, and she was released. Who thinks this is a tad bit extreme and a waste of law enforcements time and money?

Public Enemy #1 – Kayla Michelle Finley

Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, has been charged with failure to return a rented video cassette, according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

According to warrants Finely rented Monster-In-Law from Dalton Video, which is no longer in business, in 2005 and the tape was not returned within 72 hours.

Finley was sent letters to return the video several times but never responded, according to the warrant. It also said a certified warrant was sent to the woman on Sept. 12, 2005.

Now if  Kayla Michelle Finley had rented Gigli and not returned it, she should be forced to do hard time.

19 Year Old Miranda Barbour (with Husband Elytte Barbour) Admits to Pennsylvania Craigslist Killing of Troy LaFerrara, Says She Killed at Least 22 Others From Alaska to North Carolina … “When I Hit 22, I Stopped Counting”

19 year old female serial, thrill-kill, satanic murderer admits to killing of  Troy LaFerrara and at least 22 other individuals … “When I hit 22, I stopped counting.”

Miranda Barbour admitted in a prison interview with The Daily Item, that she and her husband, 22  Elytte Barbour, killed 42 year old Troy LaFerrara of Port Trevorton in what isbe called the Pennsylvania Craigslist killing.  The newlywed couple posted out on Craigslist paid companionship.  Miranda said she agreed to sex for $100 with LaFerrara. The two met in the parking lot of the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf, and drove nearly six miles to Sunbury. It was then when the Barbour’s killed the unsuspecting Craigslist respondent.  Miranda Barbour and Elytte Barbour have been charged by Sunbury police in the November 11, 2013 fatal knifing of Troy LaFerrara.  The victims body was found in the backyard of a home in Sunbury on November 12. Troy Laferrara had been stabbed 20 times and strangled.

Nineteen-year-old satanist Miranda Barbour admits to killing Troy LaFerrara of Port Trevorton. In a prison interview Friday night, she said that she considered sparing his life until he said the wrong thing. She also said LaFerrara was one of dozens of such victims she killed in the past six years.

LaFerrara, Miranda Barbour said, was Elytte’s first victim.

The 42-year-old Port Trevorton resident was killed on the Barbours’ three-week wedding anniversary.

“I remember everything,” Miranda Barbour said. “It is like watching a movie.”

She said she agreed to sex for $100 with LaFerrara, whom she met through a Craigslist ad. The two met in the parking lot of the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf, and drove nearly six miles to Sunbury.

At one point, she planned to let LaFerrara out of her Honda CRV.

“He said the wrong things,” she said. “And then things got out of control. I can tell you he was not supposed to be stabbed. My husband was just supposed to strangle him.”

As if this was not bad enough. It get’s worse, much, much worse. Miranda Barbour also admitted to killing at least 22 individuals from Alaska to North Carolina. She stated, “When I hit 22, I stopped counting.” Miranda Barbour also stated that LaFerrara was Elytte’s first victim. Miranda Barbour also said that if she is let out of jail, she will kill again.

She wants to plead guilty to LaFerrara’s murder, and said she is ready to speak with police about her other victims.

“I can pinpoint on a map where you can find them,” she said.

LaFerrara, Miranda Barbour said, was Elytte’s first victim.

The 42-year-old Port Trevorton resident was killed on the Barbours’ three-week wedding anniversary.

UPDATE I: The twisted and warped past of Miranda Barbour including sexual molestation at the age of 4 and the introduction into a Satanic cult.

She said she was sexually molested at age 4 and was introduced to murder at 13, literally in the hands of a man who led her to satanism — beliefs that she said she held at the time of the LaFerrara homicide.

“I feel it is Miranda said when she was 4, she was sexually molested by a relative.

Elizabeth Dean, Miranda’s mother, confirmed Saturday that her sister’s husband was later arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

“It was bad,” Dean said. “I never let (her) stay anywhere except for my sister’s house, and I was devastated when I found out.”

Nine years later, Miranda joined a satanic cult in Alaska. Soon after, Miranda said, she had her first experience in murder.time to get all of this out,” she said. “I don’t care if people believe me. I just want to get it out.”

UPDATE II: FBI talking to Pennsylvania police over accused Craigslist killer.

The FBI said on Sunday it was in contact with local police in the case of Miranda Barbour, who is charged with murdering a Pennsylvania man she lured via the website Craigslist and reportedly admits to the killing and at least 22 other slayings.

The FBI said on Sunday in a statement that its Philadelphia division “has recently been in contact with the Sunbury Police Department regarding Miranda Barbour, and will offer any assistance requested in the case.”

Could there finally be a break in the 40 year old missing persons case of sisters Sheila and Katherine Lyon?

Twelve year old Sheila Lyon and her 10 year old sister Katherine went missing March 25, 1975 while walking home from Wheaton Plaza in Kensington, Maryland.  40 years ago, several witnesses, including the girls’ older brother, saw the two girls inside the shopping mall before their disappearance. An extensive search and investigation ensued, but the two girls were never found nor heard from and no one had ever been charged in the case. Now after all this time, the police belive they may finally have a break in the case. Authorities have identified a “person of interest in the 40 year old Lyon’s missing person’s case … he is  57 year old Lloyd Lee Welch, an already convicted sex offender.

Welch traveled extensively throughout the United States from the 1970s through the mid-90s, authorities said. He worked as a ride operator for a carnival company, which often set up at malls. He has a criminal history that includes arrests in several different states for sexual offenses against young girls, according to the station.

The two little girls vanished nearly 40 years ago, their disappearance long faded from the public consciousness, their names etched in a stone marker their hope-sapped parents placed in a local cemetery.

But Maryland police have been tenacious about solving this cold case. And on Tuesday they breathed new life into it, when they announced a possible breakthrough.

Convicted sex offender Lloyd Lee Welch Jr., 57, who’s been serving a prison sentence in Delaware since 1997, was near Sheila and Katherine Lyon on that March day in 1975 when they went missing, Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger told reporters Tuesday.

Welch was at a plaza that was among the last places that the two girls were seen alive, and he was observed paying attention to the sisters, Manger said. He declined to state how police obtained this lead.

UPDATE I: Inmate Lloyd Welch named as ‘person of interest’ in 1975 Lyon sisters case.

Old case file documents show that a young girl who was with the Lyon sisters that afternoon had described a man who followed the three of them that day. Police developed a sketch partly based on that description, they said. It resembles a mug shot taken of Welch a few years later — in 1977 — when he was arrested in a burglary case in Montgomery.

Welch went on to assault girls in South Carolina and Delaware, where he is in prison, police said. The details of the Delaware case are not clear, but court papers show that he pleaded guilty in 1998 to several sex offenses. Officials said he is due to be set free in 2027 but has asked for early release. The Board of Pardons has scheduled a hearing for July.

Welch’s niece, Debbie Roe, 38, of Dover, Del., said she is the only member of the family who is in regular contact with him. She said she has written letters on and off to him for the past 13 years during his incarceration. She described him as “sweet” and said he is excited when she visits him in prison.

She said that Welch has denied involvement in the disappearance of the Lyon girls but told her that he was at Wheaton Plaza that day.
