Douglas Tompkins, a noted conservationist and the founder of the clothing brands North Face and Esprit, died on Tuesday after a kayaking accident on General Carrera Lake in the Patagonia region of southern Chile. He was 72.

His death was confirmed by Coyhaique Regional Hospital, where Mr. Tompkins was flown with severe hypothermia.

The health service in the Aysén administrative region said Mr. Tompkins was boating with five others when their kayaks capsized. Mr. Tompkins died in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Coyhaique, a town more than 1,000 miles south of Santiago.

Chile’s army said strong waves on the lake caused the group’s kayaks to capsize. A military patrol boat rescued three of the boaters, and a helicopter lifted out the other three, it said. No one else was seriously injured.

After retiring in 1989, Tompkins was active in conservation and environmentalism. He owned hundreds of thousands of hectares (acres) in Patagonia, a sparsely populated region of untamed rivers and other natural beauty that straddles southern Chile and Argentina. On his Chilean land, he created Pumalin Park, 290,000 hectares (716,606 acres) of forest, lakes and fjords stretching from the Andes to the Pacific.

“Doug was a passionate advocate for the environment,” said The North Face in a statement. “His legacy of conservation will help ensure that there are outdoor spaces to be explored for generations to come.”

New York Daily News Nothing But an Editorial Rag, Not News … Columnist Linda Stasi Writes that Rightwing Christian who was Murdered by the Islamic Terrorists in San Bernardino was as evil as Terrorists

IDIOT OF THE WEEK … SO NOW THE LEFT-WING LUNATIC MSM IS BLAMING VICTIMS OF TERRORISM AND CLAIMING THEY ARE AS BAD AS THE TERRORISTS?

It is no wonder that the New York Daily News is having circulation issues and now they are just into link-baiting editorials so that individuals read and comment on the hideous and misguided articles. All last week the NYDN ran editorial covers on their front page following the San Bernardino radical-Islamist terrorist slaughter that saw 14 innocent lives lost, first they did the prayer shaming cover, then the one calling the NRA chief a “terrorist” who is just as bad as mass killer and now they have outdone themselves. Linda Stasi, a Daily News columnist, has penned a piece stating that a right-wing Christian who was murdered and one of the 14 innocent people killed by Islamic terrorists, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik,  in San Bernardino was just as evil as they were.

Linda Stasi

Check out what a Liberal, hate-filled moron looks like who would dare compare a terrorist victim to a terrorism

They were two hate-filled, bigoted municipal employees interacting in one department. Now 13 innocent people are dead in unspeakable carnage.

One man spent his free time writing frightening, NRA-loving, hate-filled screeds on Facebook about the other’s religion.

The other man quietly stewed and brewed his bigotry, collecting the kind of arsenal that the Facebook poster would have envied.

What they didn’t realize is that except for their different religions they were in many ways similar men who even had the same job.

Are you kidding me? I am in agreement with the American Conservative 100% … “What kind of person writes this? What kind of newspaper publishes it?” How in the hell does one equate an individual who was savagely murdered at the hands of a terrorist to an innocent victim who was just expressing their God given First Amendment rights of free speech? Nicholas Thalasinos, a victim of terrorism, never once killed another person because of his views or opinions. However, this is the derangement of the LEFT today and the MSM where they have such hate for anyone who is Conservative or has a differing point of view from them, that they would make the comparison. UNREAL. What kind of a bottom-feeder must you truly be to defame a deceased person who died at the hands of a terrorist.

It is vile, utterly vile, that Linda Stasi and the Daily News would speak of a murdered man that way. So, what, does the Daily News now reserve the right to look into the opinions of all murder victims, and if they don’t like what they see, publish columns saying that they are no better than the man who slaughtered them?

Stasi here reminds me of the old black-humor joke: “Sure, Hitler hated the Jews. But to be fair, the Jews also hated Hitler.”

I am not a sue happy individual, but if i were the family of Nicholas Thalasinos, I think i would be bringing a defamation and libel suit against the New York Daily News.

LA Times Obit:

Weiland was born Scott Kline in Santa Cruz on Oct. 27, 1967. At the age of 2, his parents divorced. He adopted the last name Weiland when his mother remarried and the family moved to a suburb of Cleveland. His biological father, a soda truck driver, remained in California.

“My childhood was green pastures and bee stings, learning to play baseball and football, living in a nice house, waiting — always waiting — for the start of summer so I could go to California and see my dad,” he wrote in his 2011 memoir, “Not Dead & Not for Sale.”

In a 1998 interview coinciding with the release of Weiland’s solo album “12 Bar Blues,” he told The Times that he had grown accustomed to the trappings of fame brought by Stone Temple Pilots.

“I used to feel guilty about my success, but I’m over that now,” Weiland said. “It’s like, hey, some people cook for a living and some people milk cows. I write songs.”

Hours after the two mass murder suspects, 28 year old Syed Rizwan Farook and 27 year old Tashfeen Malik, were shot and killed killed by police. Check out the video below of he gun battle between police and the two suspected murderers.

Police followed a tip that led them to a house in the nearby city of Redlands. During a stakeout there, they spotted an SUV that matched the description of the suspects’ vehicle, and when the occupants drove away, police gave chase. A law enforcement source said the suspects threw objects — possibly pipe bombs — out the window.

The suspects drove back into San Bernardino and, reaching a residential neighborhood, stopped and began exchanging gunfire with more than 20 officers. One officer was injured in the firefight, but police said the wounds were not life-threatening. The two suspects were killed, their vehicle riddled with bullets.

Warning: Strong Adult language describing the shoot out between the police and mass murder suspects

CNN:

But Farook and Malik slipped away in a black SUV.

Not for long. Acting on information that quickly pointed police to Farook, they went to his home in Redlands with a search warrant.

A black SUV drove by them. Slowly at first, then it sped away.

A police car took up pursuit, as the SUV raced back in the direction of San Bernardino. While Malik drove, Farook opened fire out of the vehicle.

Some 21 officers returned fire. When the SUV came to a halt, it was riddled with bullet holes. The couple inside was dead; their bodies found dressed in “assault-style clothing,” San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said. “Dark kind of tactical gear.”

One officer was wounded, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Burguan said.

In the chaos, police encountered a third person who was running away. “We do not know if they were involved,” Burguan said. “We have that person detained.”

But they feel confident that there were only two shooters — Farook and Malik.
