Gallup: NRA Has 54% Favorable Image in United States, Only 38% Unfavorable

Before Barack Obama and the rest of the anti-Second Amendment right, anti-gun Democrats over-reach and attempt to exploit the horrendous actions of a crazed, lone, insaneoid gunman Adam Lanza who murdered his mother and then went on a shooting rampage at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT killing 26, including 20 children … they may want to take a look at how Americans feel about those who Democrats and the MSM want to demonize. According to a recent Gallup Poll, 54% of Americans have a favorable image of the NRA, while only 38% have an unfavorable one. This even after the liberal MSM has tried to smear the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre for his press conference comments and ’Meet the Press’ interview asking to protect children by arming individuals in the schools.

The NRA’s positions on guns and gun control legislation have received significant attention from media and politicians during the last week after the association’s top lobbyist, Wayne LaPierre, held a press conference in the wake of the Newtown school shooting. LaPierre denounced the idea of additional gun control legislation and instead called for armed guards in the nation’s schools. The press conference came midway through the field period of this Dec. 19-22 USA Today/Gallup poll.

Other polls have shown that Americans place gun control only fourth on the list for protecting children, following police presence in schools, greater focus on mental health screening and decreasing gun violence in movies, TV and video games.

Fellow Local Connecticut Law Enforcement Officers Give Newtown Police Christmas Day Off … “It’s a police thing”

‘Tis the Season, The long Blue Line of Christmas caring … “It’s a police thing”.

The tragedy of the Newtown, CT Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting has not just been difficult on the families who have lost loved ones when 26 people were murdered, including 20 children, but it’s also been demanding on the Newtown police department. They have been going nonstop since the shooting massacre and are getting a rare Christmas gift. Their fellow law enforcement brethren in nearby communities of Monroe, Brookfield, Danbury, Bethel and Milford  are allowing for the Newtown’s police officers a holiday off, for the entire force. Lt. Bob Kozlowsky of the Shelton, Connecticut, police department said, “when something like this happens … it’s a police thing. We’ll always try to help out neighboring towns. Any time there’s a tragedy, we’ll try our best to lend a helping hand.”

On Christmas Day, thanks to a grassroots effort by their fellow law enforcement brethren in nearby communities, Newtown’s police officers will be the recipients of a rare gift in their profession — a holiday off, for the entire force.

“Patrol officers and sworn personnel will be given the day off to be home on Christmas. Officers from surrounding towns will be patrolling Newtown,” police Sgt. Steve Santucci of Newtown told CNN.

Newtown police have been working nonstop since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14. The school shooting claimed the lives of 20 children and six faculty members, leaving a close-knit community — and its police force — still reeling 10 days later.

“We’ve sent officers, dispatchers, and even our chief of police has gone to Newtown to help out. We’ve helped with dispatching, traffic, miscellaneous calls. Our chief of police has gone to assist their chief of police with administrative duties.”

On Christmas Day, those neighborly officers will take to the streets of Newtown again. For a time, for a day, it can be Christmas for the officers of Newtown and their families.

Hmm, Did NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ David Gregory Violate DC Gun Law On National TV?

The liberal MSM double standard … why isn’t David Gregory being charged with violating DC gun laws?

As reports at The Patriot Perspective, yesterday during NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ whose studios are located in Washington, DC, host David Gregory decided to go on his liberal anti-Second Amendment rant about a ban on guns and high capacity magazines by playing show and tell by waiving around a high capacity magazine. Watch the following video at Mediaite at the 9:46 mark to see Gregory in possession of a high capacity magazine. Just one little problem, did he violate DC gun laws in the process and if so, why wasn’t he arrested for doing so? It would appear Gregory did. The penalty for to possess, sell or transfer any “large capacity ammunition feeding device.”  A person guilty of this charge can be sentenced to a maximum fine of $1000 and/or up to a year imprisonment – D.C. Criminal Code 7-2506.01.

DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines – D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01

(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term large capacity ammunition feeding device shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition..”

As stated by Doug Ross, “the incident was all part of David Gregory’s blatant advocacy journalism, designed to advance the totalitarian and unconstitutional agenda of restricting access to firearms by law-abiding citizens.” Just curious, will NBC and the liberal media be just as willing to take on the ACLU and privacy laws to del with those that are mentally ill and a danger to society?

UPDATE I: In typical liberal hypocrisy, as reported at Michele Malkin, David Gregory mocked NRA Wayne LaPierre’s idea for armed security in schools as you read this about where the Meet the Press host Gregory sends his own kids to school.

President “Thin Skin” Obama Gets Feathers Ruffled when ABC’s Jake Tapper Asks Question at Obama Gun Safety Question … “This Is Not the First Incident of Horrific Gun Violence of your 4 Years – Where’ve you been?” … Obama, “I don’t think I’ve been on vacation.”

LOST IN SMALLNESS: THE VACATIONER IN CHIEF: What Presidential leadership … Obama gets defensive when asked a tough question by the media regarding gun safety at his “gun safety” press conference in the wake of the Sandy Hill Elementary School shootings. Actually Mr. President, YOU HAVE BEEN ON VACATION!

ABC’s Jake Tapper held President Barack Obama’s feet to the fire and chastised him while asking the president where he has been in the past four years when it comes to gun violence.  As stated at the Daily Caller, suddenly Obama has a newfound concern over gun violence in the wake of the Sandy Hill Elementary School shooting that left 26 dead, including 20 children between the ages of 6 and 7 years old.

“It seems to a lot of observers that you made the political calculation in 2008 in your first term and 2012 not to talk about gun violence,” Tapper said during the noon White House press conference. “You had your position on renewing the ban on semi-automatic rifles that then-Sen. Biden put into place, but you didn’t do much about it. This is not the first incident of horrific gun violence of your four years. Where have you been?”

Obama thin skinned and defense answer: “Well, here’s where I’ve been, Jake. I’ve been President of the United States dealing with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, an auto industry on the verge of collapse, two wars. I don’t think I’ve been on vacation.”

Hmm, strange choice of words. Obama makes this vacation reference as he is about to take a 20 day vacation in Hawaii.  Not been on vacation eh, Mr. President? In your first term as president Obama has played over 100 round of golf. Not been on vacation, you mean like the non-vacations that you have not been on listed below?

I guess Barack Obama must have thought it no big deal after the mass shootings in Tuscan, AZ, Mass Shooting at Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, the James Holmes ‘Dark Night Rising’ Movie Massacre and the Oregon mall shooting.  Doesn’t it make you wonder how the 2012 or even the 2008 presidential elections would have turned out if the MSM had always asked Barack Obama tough questions and held him accountable?

Gallup: Americans Say Police Presence, Mental Health Screenings More Effect Than Banning Guns At Preventing School Shootings Like Sandy Hook

According to a recent Gallup poll following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, a majority of Americans believe that a police presence, more attention to mental health screening and  decreasing gun violence on TV and video games are all more effective than banning guns to prevent mass school shootings like what took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

However, Barack Obama and Democrats never waste the opportunity to exploit a bad situation. Obama has announced that VP Biden will head a commission to look into an “all of the above” search into things that can be done to prevent future shootings. Whether that can be done or not his debatable, but many are concerned that Obama’s “all of the above” approach will look similar to his energy policy and only deal with gun control.

Americans are most likely to say that an increased police presence at schools, increased government spending on mental health screening and treatment, and decreased depiction of gun violence in entertainment venues would be effective in preventing mass shootings at schools.

Americans rate the potential effectiveness of a ban on assault and semi-automatic guns as fourth on a list of six actions Gallup asked about. Americans rated the effectiveness of three potential actions higher than the semi-automatic weapon ban. But it is clear that Americans are not overwhelmingly convinced that any of the actions would be highly effective in preventing future school shootings. Slightly more than half (53%) of Americans say that increased police presence would be very effective. This action is at the top of the effectiveness list. The only other action that a majority of Americans view as very effective is government spending on mental health screening and treatment — 50% say this would be very effective.

Banning guns is fourth on the list of Americans for preventing violence, yet it is obviously number one in the partisan liberal agenda of Barack Obama, Democrats and liberals.  The Gallup partisan breakdown on banning guns is as follows: 26% GOP, 36% Independent, 61% Democrat. One of the three is just a tab bit outside of the bell curve.

Wal-Mart Runs Out of Semi-Automatic Rifles & NRA Memberships Surging Since Sandy Hook Murders

It would appear that many do not trust Barack Obama to abide by the US Constitution’s 2nd Amendment.

Sales are through the roof for semi-automatic weapons following the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. According to Bloomberg, semi-automatic rifles are sold out at many WAL-MART store  locations. Obama may have done more to stimulate the economy through his threats to ban guns than any of his stimulus money.

With President Barack Obama endorsing sweeping gun restrictions in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, prices for handgun magazines are surging on EBay (EBAY) and semi-automatic rifles are sold out at many Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) locations.

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, said yesterday that it would continue to sell guns, including rifles like the one used at Newtown, where 26 people, most of them children, were killed on Dec. 14. By contrast, Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. (DKS) suspended sales of similar guns at its more than 500 stores.

Searches of five kinds of semi-automatic rifles on Wal- Mart’s website showed them to be out of stock at stores in five states, including Pennsylvania, Kansas and Alabama. Wal-Mart doesn’t sell guns online, instead asking customers to input a zip code to see if their local store carries a specific weapon.

According to James Rosen of FOX News, NRA membership is up 8000 a day since the deadly shootings in Newtown, CT. As per Rasmussen, following the school shooting, 86% want more action to identify and treat mental illness, as opposed to agreeing with Obama and gun control.

UPDATE I: Gallup pollhas banning guns 4th on the list for protecting school children.

Tennessee Considers Training & Arming Schoolteachers with Guns To Protect Against Shootings Like Sandy Hook Elementary School (Virginia as Well)

More is better … especially when it comes to the safety of our children …

It’s time to look at all options.  In the wake of the horrendous Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, the Volunteer state of Tennessee is considering training and arming teachers in classrooms to help protect children. In an effort to look at all options to protect innocent school children and not just “banning” guns.  Republican  State Sen. Frank Niceley will  introduce a bill that would allow the state to pay for secretly armed teachers in classrooms.  When asked if putting more guns in schools in the wake of Newtown might make them more dangerous, Niceley said the sentiment was naïve. Not only does an unarmed school leave itself unprotected, it also presents a tempting target.

Tennessee has emerged this week as a center of the “the answer is more guns in schools” sentiment following the Newtown, Conn. elementary school shooting.

A member of the Republican-controlled legislature plans during its upcoming session to introduce a bill that would allow the state to pay for secretly armed teachers in classrooms so, the sponsor told TPM, potential shooters don’t know who has a gun and who doesn’t.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam (R) has said the idea will be part of his discussions about how to prevent a shooting like the one in Newtown from happening in the Volunteer State.

As has been seen following other mass shootings, there’s a strong segment of the gun rights lobby that says the answer to events like the one in Newtown is more guns in more places. But they’ve said the recent massacre shows how important it is to put guns into elementary schools, where even gun-friendly states like Tennessee don’t currently allow them.

America needs to get serious about protecting our greatest recourses and the idea that just banning so-called assault weapons is hardly the answer. If that is all that is on the table, then politicians are only concerned about their liberal anti-gun agenda, not children. The first anti-assault weapons ban did little to stop crime. In the case of the tragic shooting in Newtown, CT, we are presented with so many other issues, like mental illness, violent video games, and an individual who as many people described as just off, awkward and out of place. After 911, we did not ban box cutters, the US put armed federal marshals on planes, ramped up screening procedures to get on planes, created no-fly lists, reinforced cockpit doors and many other safety procedures. The same must be done to out school. If we can have armed guards in banks protecting money, its the least we can do to protect something much more valuable than money, our children.

State Sen. Frank Niceley (R) told TPM on Tuesday he believes it’s time for that to change. He plans to introduce legislation in the next session, which begins Jan. 8, that will require all schools to have an armed staff member of some kind. The current language of the bill — which is in its early form — would allow for either a so-called “resource officer” (essentially an armed police officer, the kind which most Tennessee high schools have already) or an armed member of the faculty or staff in every school in the state. The choice would allow schools that can’t afford a resource officer to fulfill the requirement without having to pay for anything beyond the cost of the training and, presumably, the weapon. But Niceley said schools should use the wiggle room to train and keep on hand armed staff not in uniform.

UPDATE I: Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA) consider guns for school officials as well.

Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-Va.) said on Tuesday that it’s “time to have a discussion” about arming school officials, in wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn.

“If someone had been armed, there would have been a possibility to stop the person from coming into the school,” McDonnell said on Washington’s WTOP radio’s “Ask the Governor” monthly program responding to a caller’s question. “I know there is a knee-jerk reaction against that, but I think we should have a discussion about it.”

Ohio State University Study Shows Prolonged Exposure to Violent Video Games Increases Aggression … Newtown, CT Adam Lanza was a Gamer

Before everyone is so quick to blame only guns for the tragic events in Newtown, CT, parents might want to look at the below study and violent video games.

So you think it is all about the guns when it comes to violence. WRONG! Since the heartbreaking murders of 20 innocent children and 6 school staffers hit the news last Friday, many have been grappling with the question of how this could happen? What could have gone so wrong? How could 20 year old Adam Lanza shoot his mother and then go on a murdering spree at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Many Democrat tragedy opportunists have blamed in all on guns. Sorry, but if we want to be honest about all of this and want to protect our children not only from future Adam Lanza’s, but from themselves, then we have to look at many other factors and issues in this case and many other recent mass murders.

Call of Duty

It is important to take a look at the following study from Ohio State on violent video games and human, or I should inhuman behavior. The study determined that More Playing Time Violent Video Games Equals More Aggression. Makes sense now doesn’t it. The study basically compares continued violent video game use to the use of cigarettes. The longer and prolonged Gaming and exposed to violent games, the greater the damage.

On each of the three test days, the study saw 70 undergraduate participants exposed to either violent games – including Call of Duty 4 (VIDEO trailer) and Condemned 2 (VIDEO trailer) – or passive titles – including DiRT 2 and Pure – for 20 minutes at a time.

After playing, participants were asked to then read the start of a story, and then at the end come up with 20 possible follow-on actions the protagonist could take, with the players of violent games opting for more aggressive solutions when compared to the passive players.

Then, participants were told that there was another participant in another room, and that they had to compete with them by playing a 25-trial videogame, with the aim of being the first person to respond to visual cues on screen.

The winner would then have the power of sending the other person a ‘noise blast’ through their headphones – such as the sound of nails down a chalkboard or a dentist drill. Players of violent games leaned towards sending their opponent a louder, more prolonged sound, while passive players were kinder to their fellow participant.

It should be noted however that there actually was no other participant, just in case someone got their ear drums blown out.

By the end of the study the research found, “people who played a violent video game for three consecutive days showed increases in aggressive behaviour and hostile expectations each day they played. Meanwhile, those who played non-violent games showed no meaningful changes in aggression or hostile expectations over that period.

Imagine what happens when an already disturbed individual with mental illness who has bonding issues is exposed to such violent videos over a prolonged period of time? Ever wonder how some one could become so desensitized that they would have no empathy in killing 6 and 7 year old children? These games reward you for for shooting your victims multiple times and multiple head shots folks. Hmm, sound familiar?  What every happened to the video games Donkey Kong, Dig-Dug, Breakout and Space Invaders? What the hell happened to our country and culture that such violence like what exists in actual war is now the norm?
