How did Peter O’Toole never win an Oscar for best actor?
Peter O’Toole, the legendary actor who appeared in such classic movies like, Lawrence of Arabia, The Lion of Winter, My Favorite Year, The Stunt Man and so many more has died at the age of 81. They just don’t make them like this any more and sadly we are losing them far too often these days. Peter O’Toole received eight Academy awards nominations for best actor, but he never won. However, he did receive a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award in 2003 for his brilliant acting work throughout his career. My favorite role of O’Toole’s is still Lawrence of Arabia, rest in peace.
The actor Peter O’Toole who found stardom in David Lean’s masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia, has died aged 81, his family has announced.
The acclaimed leading man who overcame stomach cancer in the 1970s passed away at the Wellington hospital in London following a long illness.
His daughter Kate O’Toole said: “His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts.”
O’Toole announced last year he was stopping acting saying: “I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell.”
The UK Telegraph provides us with Peter O’Toole’s top 10 films.
He was born Peter Seamus O’Toole in Ireland in 1933. His father, known as “the Captain,” lived the itinerant life of a racetrack bookie and settled in Leeds, England, where the young Peter grew up avoiding school and its attendant nuns as much as possible. An early, abortive career in journalism led to the Navy, which led to nothing much, and in 1952, O’Toole found himself stranded in Stratford with 30 shillings to his name. He spent the money on a theater ticket; the play was King Lear and the star Sir Michael Redgrave. O’Toole immediately knew what he wanted to do with his life.
The next day he hitchhiked to London and charmed his way into the Royal Academy, scholarship and all. After seven years of the itinerant players’ life, O’Toole caught the critics’ notice in Hamlet and scored a triumph in the anti-war play The Long and the Short and the Tall. The film offers poured in.
O’Toole was part of the 1954 graduating class of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art along with Richard Burton, Albert Finney, and Alan Bates. After a supernova first decade — a 10-year run from 1958 to 1968 that included two stage Hamlets, two filmed Henry IIs, and an incandescent, career-defining title role in David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia — O’Toole let the momentum slip. The 1970s were a blur of bombs and bad health; the comeback in the early 1980s was gratifying but never fully took hold.

Good Grief …Pay $45,000 Tuition at Columbia University to Get 99% Occupy Protest Classes (Occupy 101)
WHAT A JOKE: File this one under bed wetting, liberal guilt hypocrisy …
Columbia University offer Occupy protest 101 classes. That is correct, the Ivy League school where the tuition is $45,000 + is offering courses in Occupy 101. Talk about the height of hypocrisy. Does one get to major in “Occupy” pretesting or is it just a minor? Will there be graduate courses? Because I am sure every MBA Columbia offers needs to have business electives in how not to know how to use a bar of soap, have complete contempt of the law, use drugs, assault others and sexually abuse class mates.
Columbia University is offering a new course on Occupy Wall Street next semester — sending upperclassmen and grad students into the field for full course credit.
The class is taught by Dr. Hannah Appel, who boasts about her nights camped out in Zuccotti Park.
As many as 30 students will be expected to get involved in ongoing OWS projects outside the classroom, the syllabus says.
The class will be in the anthropology department and called “Occupy the Field: Global Finance, Inequality, Social Movement.” It will be divided between seminars at the Morningside Heights campus and fieldwork.
Seriously, a tuition that costs $45K + is offering courses for the so-called 99%? How exactly do the students at Columbia think they got there? Do these people not understand … THEY ARE THE 1% THEY HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR! Why would Columbia lower themselves by allowing this? I am sure there are many alumni that are questioning their diploma and what it is now worth. More from Michelle Malkin and the hypocrisy of offering such classes yet charging an unbelievable tuition where only a small number of students could ever afford.
Maybe they can show the following VIDEOS as the A/V part of the course. There are many videos for Occupy 101 to be so proud of.
This is what a $45K education can get you … peaceful protest?
The actual syllabus can be seen HERE; however. other courses on the syllabus for Occupy 101 suggestions are as follows:
- How to burn American flags
- How to sexually assault minors
- How to target & stalk school children to further your cause
- How rape girls over the age of 18 – follow up, extra credit on how to rape female protesters
- How to cost the 99% tax payers $13M and counting for useless protest – Make that $20 million.
- How to get arrested for not following the law and ordinances
- How to die at an Occupy protest encampment
- How to be arrested for child porn
- How to pimp out 16 year old girls for profit at Occupy camps
- How to overdose on drugs at OWS
- How to push the elderly down cement steps
- How to walk into a pole while protesting
- How to assault animals and punch horses
- How to beat each other up and choke and beat to death fellow protesters
- How to threaten to bomb Macy’s and burn the city [NYC] to the F’n ground [editors note: Isn't Columbia in NYC?]
- Hypocrisy & the OWS … How to stay in $700 a night hotels and claim you are the 99%
- How to contract head & body lice, TB and STD’s & HIV while protesting
- How to publicly masturbate
Actually Weasel Zippers, its not extra credit, in order to graduate Occupy 101 one must successfully complete and demonstrate that the can defecate on a police car.
What has this world come to when we are criticizing such classic books like “Winnie the Pooh” for not being gender equal? Enter Dr. Janice McCabe, a sociologist at Florida State University, who studied nearly 6,000 children’s books between 1900 and 2000 and determined the stories and determined a bias and a disproportionate representation of genders.
A comprehensive study of traditional children’s book characters has determined that Pooh Corner may be rife with gender inequality.
Dr. Janice McCabe, a sociologist at Florida State University, examined nearly 6,000 children’s books between 1900 and 2000 and determined the stories have a definitive gender bias and a disproportionate representation of genders.
“We found that males are represented more frequently than females in the titles and the central characters in the book,” McCabe told Fox News Radio.
Fifty seven percent of the children’s stories featured male characters, 31 percent featured female characters and the remainder had animal characters of unknown gender identity, according to the study.
Next Dr. Janice McCabe will be reviewing the same books and questioning why there are no “transgender” characters as well. McCabe also went on to question cartoons also as having a gender inequality. Really, has McCabe asked Nancy Drew, Pebbles, Josey & the Pussycats, Jane of ‘Dick & Jane’ fame, and Betty & Veronica of ‘the Archies’, for their opinions?
Please tell me that tax payer dollars did not go to fund this study? I think that a call might need to go to the Governor of Florida and ask that very question.
Over at Free Republic some of the commenters ask whether Dr. Janice McCabe will next he studying Pooh’s obsession with honey and his eating disorder, Tigger’s attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, Pigglet’s anxiety and Eeyore’s depression.
Breaking news from last nights Oscars … they are Leftist, union supporting, Republican bashers.
As reported at ABC’s The Note, during last nights Academy Awards, cinematography winner Wally Pfister went out of his way during his acceptance speech of thanking his union crew on “Inception.” But that’s not where it ended, he went into even greater Leftist politics backstage, off screen where he bashed Wisconsin Go. Scott Walker …
Backstage he went further, expressing shock at Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposal, which would limit union’s collective bargaining powers. Opponents of the plan have been protesting at the state capitol for 21 days.
“I think that what is going on in Wisconsin is kind of madness right now,” Pfister says. “I have been a union member for 30 years and what the union has given to me is security for my family. They have given me health care in a country that doesn’t provide health care and I think unions are a very important part of the middle class in America all we are trying to do is get a decent wage and have medical care.”
Just curious Hollywood, how do all those non-Union folks ever get by?
Oh the amazement and irony of it all of the union label. As stated at Big Hollywood, isn’t it rather comical that there is “nothing like an Academy Award winner who can afford to send his three children to whatever school he wants coming to the aide of the unions that have destroyed the public schools”.
Another shock, Hollywood types dropping the F-bomb and its just laughed off.
California Uber Alles … If they build it, they will get better grades?
More fiscal responsibility from liberals in California.
California is in financial despair, they are an economic nightmare, they are laying off teachers and some how they find a way to afford a $578 million school in Los Angeles? This state has the audacity to ask for a bail out? Didn’t Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the Democrats just ship off another $26 billion off to the teachers unions?
In this photo taken on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, the Visual and Performing Arts High School is seen in Los Angeles. Next month’s opening of the Robert F.Kennedy Community Schools will be auspicious for a reason other than its both storied and infamous history as the former Ambassador Hotel, where the Democratic presidential contender was assassinated in 1968. With an eye-popping price tag of $578 million, it will mark the inauguration of the nation’s most expensive public school ever.…
Um, besides the ridiculous waste of tax payers money does any one else see an issue with naming a school after RFK, the building being the very place where he was assassinated? With the lack of wisdom the planners used in building this money pit in the first place, lets hope the food core is not names after Sirhan Sirhan as well.
Next month’s opening of the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools will be auspicious for a reason other than its both storied and infamous history as the former Ambassador Hotel, where the Democratic presidential contender was assassinated in 1968.
With an eye-popping price tag of $578 million, it will mark the inauguration of the nation’s most expensive public school ever.
The K-12 complex to house 4,200 students has raised eyebrows across the country as the creme de la creme of “Taj Mahal” schools, $100 million-plus campuses boasting both architectural panache and deluxe amenities.
“There’s no more of the old, windowless cinderblock schools of the ’70s where kids felt, ‘Oh, back to jail,’” said Joe Agron, editor-in-chief of American School & University, a school construction journal. “Districts want a showpiece for the community, a really impressive environment for learning.”
So the building makes the learning? Same students, same teachers, same educational system and same parental guidance and some how all is going to change. Wanna bet? Glad to see that the LA bureaucrats have their priorities in order. There is a reason why some states are in financial ruin, they earned it. Why should any one else have to bail these people out for their asinine choices? If we are forces to, then all responsible need to be fired!
The pricey schools have come during a sensitive period for the nation’s second-largest school system: Nearly 3,000 teachers have been laid off over the past two years, the academic year and programs have been slashed. The district also faces a $640 million shortfall and some schools persistently rank among the nation’s lowest performing.
This is still the United States of America, isn’t it?
As reported at Fox News, school children in the Arlington Public School district will now be“ALLOWED” to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Yes, you heard that correct … “ALLOWED”. Remember when this was common place in every classroom at the start of the school day?
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Students at Massachusetts high schools in Arlington can rejoice — they’ll be allowed to recite the Pledge of Allegiance this fall.
Nearly two months after deadlocking on a proposal by senior Sean Harrington, the Arlington Public School Committee unanimously approved a new pledge policy on Tuesday night that allows principals at each school to determine how the pledge will be recited each day.
“Yes, the policy has been changed,” Arlington High School Principal Charles Skidmore told FoxNews.com in an email. “All principals in the district must ensure that the Pledge of Allegiance is said every school day in all classrooms.”

Student Banned by Teacher in California for Drawing a Flag, Was “God Bless America” Offensive … And Holy Jolly Rancher Batman
Once again we are witness to liberal insanity from California.
A teacher said that the students could draw anything they wanted to and then the following ensued. A 7th grade student in California was told by a teacher that her drawing of the American flag was offensive. However, the picture of Barack Obama was beautiful.
Offensive? What Say You America?
The 13-year-old’s mother, Tracy Hathaway said she doesn’t know why the Gavilan Middle School teacher called the drawing offensive because she won’t tell the family what’s wrong with the picture. Hathaway wants to know why the teacher praised another student for drawing a picture of President Barack Obama.
As the mother stated, the one thing that brings our country together and unites us as the American flag does was offensive; however, Barack Obama who people disagree with and is divisive was okay with the teacher.
The school looked inot the incident and wanted the teacher to apologize as what she did was over the line.
So maybe the question needs to be asked of the teacher, what part of the drawing was offensive, the America flag or the “God Bless America”. In either case, this is rather troubling as one again we see what teaches our children.
UPDATE I: Of wait, more brilliance from our educational system as a third grader in Texas was suspended and sent home for a week for possessing a contraband substance. Was it a weapon, fire works, knife, drugs? NOPE A JOLLY RANCHER! That id correct America. A piece of candy got a third grader a week of detention because the school is playing Nanny state.
The superintendent for the Brazos Independent School District also claims the district is simply following state guidelines to limit the amount of junk food in schools.
“Whether or not I agree with the guidelines, we have to follow the rules,” Superintendent Jack Ellis told KHOU-TV in Houston.
But state guidelines for punishing students with junk food don’t even exist, Texas Department of Agriculture spokesperson Bryan Black said.
“Our policy does not prohibit from sharing a Jolly Rancher with a friend,” Black told FOXNews.com. “If a parent wants to pack candy, it’s their decision, not against school policy. A parent needs to decide what a student eats.”
I think we are beginning to see why maybe Mexican-Americans found it so offensive for individuals to wear American flag colored clothing last week on Cino de Mayo. They are taking the lead from liberal, intolerant disrespectful adult teacher.
What is teaching the children today?
Pancake Rage … Amy Bishop UA-Huntsville Alleged Professor Killer) Was was Charged with Assault in 2002 IHOP Dispute
Did Pancake rage lead to the escalation of Tenure rage?
Another day and another previous troubling charge for Amy Bishop, the biology professor who is accused of murdering three professors at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Amy Bishop has been charged with capital murder, she also some 24 years ago shot and killed her brother, but is was mysteriously deemed an accidental shooting death.
Now, we are presented with yet another blast from the past down police arrest memory lane with professor Amy Bishop …
According to the Boston Globe, in March, 2002, Amy Bishop walked into an International House of Pancakes (IHOP) in Peabody, MA with her family, asked for a booster seat for one of her children, learned the last seat had gone to another mother and them punched her in the head.
Are you serious? What a loose canon this woman was with the propensity to fly off the handle.
Bishop, according to a police report, strode over to the other woman, demanded the seat and launched into a profanity-laced rant.
When the woman would not give the seat up, Bishop punched her in the head, all the while yelling “I am Dr. Amy Bishop.”
Bishop received probation and prosecutors recommended that she be sent to anger management classes, though it is unclear from court documents whether a judge ever sent her there.
Wow, what’s up with the high browed elitist from Massachusetts, “I am Amy Bishop”. That sounds an awful lot like the famed “don’t you know who I am” from the mouth of MA Senator John Kerry.
We will go out on a limb and say that Amy Bishop did not learn much from her anger management classes, that is if she attended at all.
The Globe said Bishop received probation and prosecutors recommended that she be sent to anger management classes. It’s unclear if she ever went. The victim in the assault declined to talk to the Boston newspaper.
How fitting that the MSM not cover and “Van Jones” the Climategate story. Van Jones the Green job czar and the man made global warming fraud, both “Inconvenient” stories for the media.
Drip, drip, drip … CRU chief Phil Jones is temporarily stepping down over Climategate. Or as the AP calls it, allegations that he overstated the case for man-made climate change. Who knew “overstated” was code for fraud.
Britain’s University of East Anglia says the director of its prestigious Climatic Research Unit is stepping down pending an investigation into allegations that he overstated the case for man-made climate change.
The university says Phil Jones will relinquish his position until the completion of an independent review into allegations that he worked to alter the way in which global temperature data was presented.
The allegations were made after more than a decade of correspondence between leading British and U.S. scientists were posted to the Web following the security breach last month.
Amidst the Climategate scandal, it keeps getting worse the more we learn of the global warming hoax. More fraud exposed courtesy of PJ Media. Then there is the investigation of Penn State professor Michael Mann. Hmm, I am starting to sense a pattern more provable that man made global warming. A pattern of fraud.
NewsBusters asks the question, with such a prominent individual like Phil Jones stepping down from his position, will the American MSM cover this story now? Once again we are witness to the MSM “Van Jonesing” a story that is inconvenient to them. Just like the MSM never covered the Van Jones story until he resigned, they American media is doing the same thing with the “Inconvenient” hacked e-mails and subsequent fraud that they exposed.
Let’s hope after the investigations are complete and the truth be known that the investigators don’t dispose of the raw data.
