American Voters Against Obamacare 50% to 44% … Will the Finance Committee do the Will of the People?

As the Senate Finance Committee prepares for their vote Tuesday on it’s version of Obamacare, the most recent Rasmussen poll shows that the American voters are against Obamacare reform by a 50% to 44% margin. The question is will the Senate Finance Committee listen to the will of the people? The present Senate proposal requires Americans to buy insurance for pay a fine. That is opposed by Americans by an even greater rate, 55% – 32%.

If the congressional plan passes, 26% of voters say the quality of health care will get better, and 50% say it will get worse. In August, the numbers were 23% better and 50% worse.

Fifty-one percent (51%) say passage of the plan will make the cost of health care go up while 21% say it will make costs go down. In August, 52% thought the plan would lead to higher costs, and just 17% thought it would achieve the stated goal of lowering costs.

The version of the plan working its way through the U.S. Senate now includes a proposal that requires young and healthy Americans to either buy health insurance or pay a $750 annual penalty for not having it.

Just yesterday, the insurance lobbyists took the gloves off and released a PricewaterhouseCoopers analysis that stated that health coverage costs for families would increase by 111 percent in the next 10 years under provisions proposed by the Senate Finance Committee. They stated that the bill would drive up premiums.

A new report by health industry lobbyists at America’s Health Insurance Plans, prepared by consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, concludes that health coverage costs for families would increase by 111 percent in the next 10 years under provisions proposed by the Senate Finance Committee. That means costs would jump, on average, to $25,900 for families by 2019, and to $9,700 for individuals.

White House spokeswoman Linda Douglass called the report “distorted and flawed”. What did you expect them to say, that they were correct? These are the same people that created the snitch on your neighbor email so to nark on others that dare come out in opposition to Obamacare. What exactly would one expect the White House to say? It was the White House who turned on the insurance industry and put the blame on them when his Obamacare reform failed and they shifted the focus on health insurance reform. A desperate President has also attacked doctors along the way as well.

Of course they will demonize the insurance carriers as having mush to lose. Like Obama does not? his entire Presidency rests on the passage of Obamacare reform. Let’s get real here. Obamacare reform has never been about “We the People”, it’s been about a power grab. If healthcare was so important and so urgent, why are they not passing tort reform that would begin tomorrow rather than pushing all changes off until 2013?

Democrats and their allies scrambled on Monday to knock down a new industry-funded study forecasting that Senate legislation, over time, will add thousands of dollars to the cost of a typical policy. “Distorted and flawed,” said White House spokeswoman Linda Douglass. “Fundamentally dishonest,” said AARP’s senior policy strategist, John Rother. “A hatchet job,” said a spokesman for Senate Finance Committee chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont.

But the health insurance industry’s top lobbyist in Washington stood her ground. In a call with reporters, Karen Ignagni, president of America’s Health Insurance Plans, pointedly refused to rule out attack ads on TV featuring the study, though she said she believed the industry’s concerns could be amicably addressed.
