This Man Can Ruin Your Career.

Posted in: General

ShortellIf you are a associate professor at Brooklyn College, a part of the CUNY system, Timothy Shortell may have a say on whether or not you get tenure. So what you say, listen to some of the things that are said by him. He would make Ward Churchill blush.

  • “Can there be any doubt that humanity would be better off without religion? Everyone who appreciates the good, the true and the beautiful has a duty to challenge this social poison at every opportunity. It is not enough to be irreligious; we must use our critique to expose religion for what it is: sanctimonious nonsense.” NY SUN
  • Christians claim that theirs is faith based on love, but they’ll just as soon kill you,” Shortell wrote in an online journal that is linked to his Web site (www.shortell.org). NY Daily News
  • He also called himself and others who share his beliefs “Ãœbermenschen,” a reference to German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche’s idea of the perfect person, or “superman.” NY Daily News

  • It is no wonder, then, that those who are religious are incapable of moral action, just as children are. Anti Naturals

  • On a personal level, religiosity is merely annoying—like bad taste. This immaturity represents a significant social problem, however, because religious adherents fail to recognize their limitations. So, in the name of their faith, these moral retards are running around pointing fingers and doing real harm to others. Anti Naturals

So all you parents whose children attend Brooklyn College, recognize what the faculty think is a leader! Are you proud or scared? Would you invite this person to your house? What are you going to do about it?

So all the Alumni of Brooklyn College, are you proud of what happens at your Alma Mater? Do you think this enhances your diploma? Do you want to donate to an institution that thinks this is leadership? What are you gonna do about it?

Parents of prospective students, are you prepared to have your children educated in this environment? Does it represent the values that you wish to convey to your precious children? Would you pay the tuition to Brooklyn College wants for this type of education?

These are all valid questions. Some people may think that his opinions and the schools promotion of him and thus them are valid. Good for you. But I was raised on Long Island, and unless things have changed drastically, this is not what the populace wants.

So if I was an alumnus I would call the college. I would call the board of trustees. I would explain that they will not get a dime from me until the institution changes.

If I was a parent, I would explain that I was exploring the possibilities of my child transferring. Of losing the tuition that we would pay.

If I was a parent of a high school student, I would let Brooklyn College know that I have removed them off the list of prospective schools.

People can allow Timothy Shortell to be a leader of Brooklyn College, but they do not have to participate. Vote with your feet and your pocketbook. The Board of Trustees can hear that loud and clear.
