Convicted ex-felon arrested in connection with Steve McNair homicide.

33 year old Adrian Gilliam Jr has been arrested in connection with the murder of former Tennessee Titans QB Steve McNair. Adrian Gilliam has been accused of selling the gun used by Sahel Kazemi in the murder of Steve McNair. Gilliam was arrested by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco and is facing federal charges of being a convicted felon in the possession of a firearm.

“This is another example of what can happen with a gun when a felon is selling it on the street with little to no interest other than just selling it for 100 bucks,” said Nashville, Tennessee, Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

Authorities said federal agents traced the gun used in the Fourth of July murder-suicide to Household Pawn in Nashville, which sold it in January 2002.

According to CNN, Gilliam of LaVergne, TN told detectives that on July 2, 2009 he sold the gun for about $100 to Sahel Kazemi outside in the parking lot of Dave & Busters in the middle of her waitress shift. Sahel Kazemi then used the same gun in the murder-suicide of Steve McNair and herself over the 4th of July weekend in a downtown Nashville, TN condo.

According to The Tennessean, the federal gun offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000. Adrian Gilliam Jr is an ex-con who was arrested in Miami-Dade County, FL in 1993 of armed robbery and second degree murder.

Arrest made in connection with McNair shooting

One has to wonder what, if any type of deal was made by Gilliam with police? He was certainly quick to provide police with the fact that he had committed a crime in selling the gun following the murder-suicide of  McNair and Kazemi. Gilliam must have figured that it was better to cop to the lesser federal charge of possession of a firearm by a felon than a murder charge.

After the deaths of McNair and Kazemi, Gilliam told detectives he purchased the firearm for protection after his previous residence was burglarized. According to the complaint, Nashville Police Department records show Gilliam filed a burglary report in January, 2007. At the time of the interview, he also advised detectives he sold the 9mm pistol to a white female on July 2, which was two days before McNair was fatally shot.
