One, Two, Now Three Arrests Made in the Murders of Florida Couple, Byrd and Melanie Billings

There have been three arrests made in the double murders of the Florida couple, Byrd and Melanie Billings, who where killed in their home last Thursday.

First, 56 year old Leonard Gonzalez Senior was arrested Sunday afternoon and charged with tampering with evidence in a murder investigation. Leonard Gonzalez Sr. is accused of trying to paint over and hide damage on a red van caught on the Billings’ surveillance video.

The Escambia County, Florida Sheriff’s Office has now confirmed that there have been two more arrests. 41 year old Wayne Coldiron and Gozalez’s son, Leonard Gonzalez Junior have been arrested in connection with the Billings’ double homicide. They have been charged with murder.

“We have no information that would lead us to believe that Mr. Coldiron had any previous contact with the Billings family,” says Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan.

According to Coldiron’s arrest report, Gonzalez Senior claimed to be the getaway driver when his son, Coldiron and several other unknown men road to the billings home in the now infamous red van. The report says Gonzalez Senior saw his son, Coldiron and the others enter the Billings home to commit a robbery but he didn’t know who fired shots killing Byrd and Melanie Billings.

UPDATE I: Fourth Arrest Made in Murders of Byrd and Melanie Billings

Four people have been arrested for killing a Florida couple who has opened their large, rural home to children with disabilities.

Four suspects are in custody but a sheriff in Escambia County, in the Panhandle, says as many as eight people have been involved. Robbery is said to be among “numerous motives.”
