Greta Van Susteren Is Out at Fox News … Saying Goodbye to the Person Who Introduced Me to Beth Holloway

Posted in: Aruba,FOX NEWS,Media,Personal

Greta Van Susteren leaves FOX News … Wishing you the best of luck in the future.

After 14 years, Greta Van Susteren is leaving FOX News. I can’t say that I am happy to hear this news. In a Facebook post Greta stated that Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years. Many conservatives can say the same during that period of time as well, yours included. Greta will be replaced by Brit Hume. She will be missed. Greta Van Susteren was not just about politics, she covered true crime, court cases and missing persons. Which brings me to the following. On a personal note, I first met Greta in Aruba while searching for Natalee Holloway in 2005. I can remember meeting her after one of her TV shows in Aruba and waiting in a long line to say hello and introduce myself. As I was the next in line to meet her I walked up to where she was and went to introduce myself. Greta smiled and said, I know who you are, shook my hand and gave me a hug. Imagine that, Greta Van Susteren, who was probably the best at covering the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in the media knew who little old “Red” was. Greta was gracious as we talked and talked and talked. She was amazed at how a website could amass so much news and scoop the MSM.  She would then ask me to stay around as she wanted to introduce me to Beth. That is correct, Greta Van Susteren was the first person to actually introduce me to Beth Holloway. And the rest is history in developing one of the greatest relationships in my life. Of course we have been critical of some of the things that Greta did, especially the Joran Van der Sloot interview; but she eventually saw the Monkey light.  However no matter what, for that intro to Beth, I will always be thankful to Greta and wish her the best in all her future endeavors.

In a statement on the matter, Fox News used the sort of language that comes with distressing departures. “We are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success,” said a statement from co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine. Starting Tuesday, Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume will take over Van Susteren’s 7 p.m. nightly slot for the remainder of the 2016 election. Hume is a strong choice for this assignment, having worked key jobs on the Fox News political team stretching back into the ’90s, including managing editor of the Washington bureau, anchor of “Special Report” and host of presidential election coverage

Consistent with that sentiment, Van Susteren today posted this note on Facebook:

Yes, I have left the Fox News Channel. On Thursday night, I made my decision and informed Fox News of my decision that I was leaving Fox News Channel per my contract.

Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years and I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now. The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait.

I love my staff, I love my colleagues, and I love the crews. That is the hardest part of this decision as they are wonderful people.

And most of all? I love the viewers — even the ones who have gotten mad at me over the years and taken swipes. :)

I hope to continue my career in broadcasting.

Thank you Greta for always being a good sport. Remembering making Greta Aruba’s Most Wanted. Although, I think it may have really been Scared Monkeys. Also, a blast from the past when our own Klaas got Greta’s attention when she created a JibJab dance video of Greta and her gang.

Some times some humor is needed in order to lighten the news that we follow on a day to day basis to keep us all sane. Our very own Klaasend managed to get the attention of Greta Van Susteren and company the other night on Greta Live Wire.

Hey Greta, don’t ask for things they might come true. Since Greta wanted to see Bernnie Grimm dancing as well, we have decided to let Klaas have free reign with yet another video.

Back by popular demand and requested by Greta and company … here is the rest of the Greta Van Susteren’s “Legal Eagles” along with Scared Monkeys doing the Can Can. Or is it the CAN’T CAN’T?

Thank you Greta!!!
