CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN … SENATE LEADER IN SOME REAL TROUBLE

Maybe this is what Barack Obama was referring to when he talked about hope and change you can believe in? Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid looks like he is in trouble in Nevada for his re-election bid. Only 1/3 of Nevada voters said they would re-elect Reid in the 2010 election while 45% said they would vote to replace him in a Washington-based Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. for the Review-Journal. Wow, this is the Senate Majority Leader with these numbers.

Nearly half of Nevadans have had enough of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as the powerful Democrat heads into his re-election campaign, a new Las Vegas Review-Journal poll finds.

About a third of the state’s voters would re-elect Reid if the 2010 election were held today, according to the poll, but 45 percent say they would definitely vote to replace him. Seventeen percent would consider another candidate.

Half of Nevada voters had an unfavorable view of Reid, while 38 percent had a favorable view and 11 percent a neutral opinion.

I guess many did not appreciate it when Reid said the Iraq war was lost. The Gateway Pundit says, Face it Harry, your election war is lost.

As Real Clear Politics points out, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s favorability rating (38%) is 17 points lower than that of Barack Obama, while Reid’s unfavorability is at 50%.  This coupled with Democratic Speaker of the House Pelosi’s poor approval numbers should shed some concern for the Democratic leadership. The Democrats are learning what it means to be the one’s in power and thus are looked upon as responsible. They can blame GWB all they want, the Democrats presently control the White House, Senate and House. They will be scrutinized for the success, failure and direction of the country. When a Senate Majority Leader loses an election, it is time to pause.

What is peculiar is that President Barack Obama still maintains a honeymoon high approval rating; however, the coattails do not seem to transfer to fellow Democrats. What is going to happen once the honeymoon is over and Obama’s socialism and spending does not work? We might just see real change in 2010.

UPDATE I: Maybe the reason why Nevada voters want Reid gone is because he can’t do a political appearance without botching it up? In one appearance, Reid managed to botch three statements, including that of the health of Massachussetts Senator Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd. Do you really want the government involved in your healthcare, they can’t even get the status of the health of their own members correct.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid became the latest Democrat to stray into rhetorical trouble Tuesday, botching statements on three subjects in one news conference — including the fragile health of the chamber’s most senior members.

The Nevada Democrat reported that one of them, Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., was absent because he was receiving a new round of treatment for his brain cancer. Asked if the cancer was in remission, Reid replied, “As far as I know, it is, yes.”

Kennedy’s office refused to confirm Reid’s comments or make any statement in response, the public silence a classic Washington disavowal.

It would appear that the Democrat Majority Leader Reid misspoke when it came the Kennedy’s cancer. From The Cape Cod Times via the Gateway Pundit, a statement was released denying Reid’s statement.

U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy’s office says a report that the Massachusetts Democrat’s brain tumor has gone into remission and he is returning to the Senate full time next month is unfounded.

A staffer who did not wish to be named for this story said the senator continues to balance a treatment regimen with work, adding his schedule is determined on a day-to-day basis.

Harry Reid then went on to botch statements regarding the health of Senator Robert Byrd . He also went on to mangle his party’s position that Senate Democrats would join their House counterparts in withholding the money President Barack Obama needs to close the Guantanamo Bay prison until Obama comes up with a plan for relocating its prisoners.
