PA Senator Arlen Specter: He Said, He Said … “I did not say I am a loyal Democrat”.

DINO – Arlen Specter

A tale of two comments from Arlen Specter: “I’m a loyal Democrat. I support your agenda.” …. “I did not say I am a loyal Democrat”. From RINO to DINO (Democrat in Name Only) in one week. Let the Democrats worry now about their new found ally Arlen Specter and that so-called 60th vote that they can count on. It would appear from Specter that he will be no more cooperative with Democrats than he was with Republicans. Guess who’s headache this is now?

Hmm, from the mouth of Arlen Specter on “Meet the Press” when David Gregory asked about health care. If one was going to be in the middle and not loyal to anyone, would not they run as an Independent?

GREGORY: It was reported this week that when you met with the president, you said, “I will be a loyal democrat. I support your agenda.” Let me test that on probably one of the most important areas of his agenda, and that’s health care. Would you support health care reform that puts up a government run public plan to compete with a private plan issued by a private insurance company?

SPECTER: No. And you misquote me, David. I did not say I would be a loyal Democrat. I did not say that. And last week, after I said I was changing parties, I voted against the budget because the budget has a way to pass health care with 51 votes, which undermines a basic Senate institution to require 60 votes to impose closure on key issues…. I did not say I am a loyal Democrat.

No, Arlen Specter simply switched parties because he read the handwriting on the wall and knew he would lose badly in the Republican Primary to Pat Toomey.  The only answer he had was to jump ship to the Democrats for his political survival, much like he did in the 1980’s when Specter became a Republican by jumping ship from the Dems. Makes one wonder about the Democratic politicians who wanted to be Senator of PA and how they feel about this turn of events. The LEFT is fit to be tied as they don’t want him either. Isn’t this generally the message to head home?
