Star Wars Not For Kids; If this is true, Lucas will end up looking like Anakin!

Posted in: Child Welfare,Fun,General,Media

Great. They market this movie so well that my 5 year old can name every character in the new movie. The 8 year old is playing the lego game that tells the story of Episode III, we are living in 24/7 Star Wars in our house.

But the movie has been made so violent that it is rated PG-13. And now I have to decide whether or not to take the boys to see the movie. If I take the 8 year old, the 5 year old will raise holy heck. If neither can go, we will be scourges of the Earth as all the Jone’s kids are sure to see it.

From David Germain at the AP:

The Force lands in theaters a bit more forcefully in the final installment of George Lucas “Star Wars” tale.

“Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” is the first “Star Wars” tale to receive a PG-13 rating. The movie was screened for reporters Tuesday night at Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch, and the PG-13 rating – “for sci-fi violence and some intense images” – is well-deserved.

The action is relentless and includes sequences more dark and disturbing than anything previously seen in the tragic Skywalker soap opera.

Young Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) completes his transformation into blackhearted villain Darth Vader with a bloodbath against old allies, the body count including a corridor of “youngling” corpses – Jedi children cut down by his light saber.

Anakin is left gruesomely mutilated in a death duel with former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). His surgical reclamation as the part-flesh, part-machine Vader is chillingly juxtaposed against the bleak childbirth scene of his wife, Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman), whose twins grow up to be heroes of the original “Star Wars” trilogy, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.

“These are pretty intense. Who should be allowed to see them should be left up to the parents, but at least they’re warned that it’s pretty intense,” Lucas said. “And obviously, that’s not a good business move.”

I wonder how long Mister Lucas has known that he has made such a graphic movie. Was it when he signed the Hundreds of Millions of DOLLARS in endorsement contracts aimed at the kids??? Jim Garaghty over at National Review  takes Lucas to task over this issue.

Let me get this straight. With villains in Attack of the Clones that consisted of the “Trade Federation”, “Commerce Guild”, “Techno Union” and “Intergalactic Banking Clan”, etc., I’m being warned about the dangers of capitalism from a man who made perhaps more money from merchandising than any other man in history. I’m getting lectured about the dangers of greed from man who authorized, “C-3POs” breakfast cereal, “The Star Wars Christmas Special” featuring Bea Arthur’s musical number, and not one but two Ewoks made-for-TV movies.

Mister George Lucas is slowly turning into my version of Anakin. He is not making my world any easier.
