Paul Harvey, the death of a broadcasting legend … Rest in Peace.Paul_Harvey

One of the most distinct and respected radio talk pioneer voices has passed away. Paul Harvey, a news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose career spanned more than 70 years has passed away at the age of 90 Saturday at a Phoenix, Arizona hospital surrounded by his family.

There is not a day that did not do by that I did not look forward to hearing Paul Harvey and “the rest of the story”. Personally, I loved his style, presentation and distinct voice. However, it was more than that. As Red State so well states, Paul Harvey focus was to always uplift the listener and to celebrate the greatness of America and it wasn’t just about style that interested the listener … it was about content. Listening to “the rest of the story” one came away from it more enlightened. Being knowledgeable and  informed is never a bad thing. Paul Harvey was a unique and inspirational true American hero … and now you know they rest of the story.

Harvey died surrounded by family at a hospital in Phoenix, where he had a winter home, said Louis Adams, a spokesman for ABC Radio Networks, where Harvey worked for more than 50 years. No cause of death was immediately available.

Harvey had been forced off the air for several months in 2001 because of a virus that weakened a vocal cord. But he returned to work in Chicago and was still active as he passed his 90th birthday. His death comes less than a year after that of his wife and longtime producer, Lynne.

My father and mother created from thin air what one day became radio and television news,” Paul Harvey Jr. said in a statement. “So in the past year, an industry has lost its godparents and today millions have lost a friend.”

Here is one of those little pieces of information that dig deeper that the stories surface that you may not have known.

As Mascmind reminds us, long before Rush or Sean Hannity there was conservative talk show host Paul Harvey.
