Acting Legend Paul Newman Dead at the Age of 83 … Rest in Peace

Posted in: Celebrity,Deceased,Obituary

Paul Newman, 1925-2008

Movie and acting legend Paul Newman has died age 83. According to reports, Paul Paul_NewmanNewman died Friday night at his Westport, CT home from cancer. Whether he was Fast Eddie Felson, Hud Bannon, Cool Hand Luke or Butch Cassidy … Paul Newman was one of my all time favorite actors and will be truly missed. The classic films that Paul Newman was in are too numerous to name.  God bless and may he rest in eternal peace.

Newman was nominated for Academy Awards 10 times, winning a regular Oscar in 1987 for “The Color of Money” and two honorary ones. He was equally at home in comedies such as “The Sting” and dramas such as “Hud.”

He sometimes teamed with his wife, Joanne Woodward, also an Oscar winner for the 1957 film “Three Faces of Eve.”

My own  personal remembrance and Paul Newman moment: I once had the opportunity to meet Paul Newman in Westport, CT in the 1990’s. The chance meeting is probably one of the main reasons why I have such admiration for Paul Newman. Paul Newman was as close to normal as it gets for a man in his position.  Actually, both he an Robert Redford came into a clothing store that I was shopping in near closing time, to my surprise. I nearly dropped the suits I was holding when I saw them walk in the door and near the counter. At that point the store owners had thought that us “common folk” had left. To their surprise there was two of us still in the store as they attempted to whisk people out as they did not want customers bothering Paul Newman and Redford. As Paul Newman walked closer he looked over and said to me and the owner, “excuse me are you done shopping, if not I see no reason why he needs to leave. I think he may need a pair of pants just like me.” Tongue tied at that point, I said to Paul Newman, “Thanks, I am a huge fan and I think I will let you have some shopping time to yourself … I am sure that no one thought anyone was still here, it’s an honor sir.” Mr. Newman walked over, shook my hand and said thanks as Robert Redford smiled in the back ground. Paul Newman had a presence, a cool confidence and a way about him that lit up a room. Thank you Paul Newman for all that you are …

Paul Newman, the death of a Legend

Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.

Paul Newman was a man’s man and did it all from film star to racing driver to charitable entrepreneur. They just do not make them like Butch Cassidy any more these days.

Press Release:

WESTPORT, Conn., Sept 27, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Remembering the life and legacy of Paul Newman, Newman’s Own Foundation has issued a statement. The statement, from Vice-Chairman Robert Forrester, follows:

“Paul Newman’s craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all.

“Paul had an abiding belief in the role that luck plays in one’s life, and its randomness. He was quick to acknowledge the good fortune he had in his own life, beginning with being born in America, and was acutely aware of how unlucky so many others were. True to his character, he quietly devoted himself to helping offset this imbalance.
