WV Senator Byrd Admitted to Hospital … Is This the Senate or an Infirmary?

Posted in: Government,Healthcare,Politics

No sooner was it reported that Ted Kennedy, the senior Senator from Massachusetts was recuperating well falling surgery on his malignant brain tumor than we heard news that now Senator Robert Byrd was hospitalized with a high fever.

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.V., was taken to a Virginia hospital Monday after his caregiver noticed he was running a fever and feeling lethargic and sluggish, NBC News reported, citing Byrd’s staff.

The caregiver called Byrd’s doctor, who recommended Byrd, 90, go to the hospital for overnight observation, according to communication director Jesse Jacobs. Byrd was taken there by ambulance.

90 year old Senator Robert Byrd was hospitalized Monday night. With the failing health of some of the rather aging Democratic Senators one begins to wonder these days whether they actually have a majority of the votes in the Senate. With Kennedy and Byrd’s health issues coupled with Clinton and Obama always in campaign mode, the Democrats may actually be presently the minority in the Democratically held Senate.

We do wish Senator Byrd well; however, its also time for him to step down and let the good people of West Virginia have different representation. I hardly think that it was our Founding Fathers intentions to have politicians serve for life. However, that is for another post on political service and term limits.
